The Neat - Hormones In Action 7″

July 23rd, 2006 by The Flakes // Drummer

neat_hormones.jpgneat_hormones_group.jpg

There’s way too little powerpop posts in here so to fill up the quota we give you this awesome classic. Take a close look at the band photo here. Ray Romance the guitarist to the right must’ve gotten himself laid a couple of times looking so cool and wearing those tight leopard pants. The b-side is up to others to post cause it’s just nowhere near the a-side.

The Flyboys - Jetsetter E.P. 7″

July 23rd, 2006 by The Flakes // Drummer

flyboys_jetsetter.jpgNot the Flyboys from California. This is the Minnesota powerpop band with the same name. Jetsetter is a classic powerpop song that deserves to be comped. The b-side has the country flavoured Cruel World and a cover of one of the worst rock n roll songs ever Hippy, Hippy, Shake. The only thing I’ve found is their inclusion in Felix Havocs Minnesota Punk Rock Discography.

Raw Deal! Comp. LP 12″

July 21st, 2006 by The Flakes // Drummer

rawdeal.jpgThe first and classic compilation released by Lee Woods RAW Records. Contrary to what you might believe there aren’t too many great tracks on it. You get the top of the cream and if you crawe it all then check out Damage Goods Records reissue of this.

Check out a very interesting interview with Lee over at punk77.co.uk: “I loved to help bands, so just about every Sunday I had a band in Spaceward studio. When it became clear we couldn’t release them all I had the idea for the Raw Deal album.“. Best track: Psycho’s Soul Train.

From the back of the sleeve: “Dedicated to all small labels, who are in it for the fun and glory-not just for the money.”.

Meantime - Two For One E.P. 7″

July 21st, 2006 by The Flakes // Drummer

meantime.jpgOne great powerpop track out of three is not too shabby. The other two tracks is too generic and too reministic of Two For One in structure. Their only 7inch and that’s all I know.

Razors - Christ Child 7″

July 21st, 2006 by The Flakes // Drummer

razors.jpgThe only track you need by Germanys the Razors is Christ Child. The rest I’ve heard is quiet bland generic punk rock. But this is snotty raw punk rock that is suprisingly good beeing from Germany! Razors is still togheter: Wie geths? The b-side Enemy is so bad you won’t believe it.

Spelling Mistakes - Feel So Good E.P. 7″

July 21st, 2006 by The Flakes // Drummer

spellingmistakes_feelsogood.jpgHope you didn’t miss the first Spelling Mistakes post. If you did: Hate Me. Up there with all the Australian classics. Here’s a softer version of Hate Me, Hate Me.

The record was well received, but problems continued to mount — Fowler had acquired the habit of wearing a Nazi SS uniform on stage, which combined with the quartet’s pre-existing “boot boy” following resulted in a total ban from the Auckland club scene.“.

Psycho - 8 Song E.P. 12″

July 20th, 2006 by The Flakes // Drummer

psycho.jpgIf you’ve heard later stuff from Psycho you won’t believe this is the same band. After this they got a new drummer(the owner of Axction Records if I remember it right?) and god knows what happened but they became so incredible bad. This on the other hand is a total HC classic from 1983 and the first release of the famous Axction Records label that released many not so good records and tapes.

Psycho was, and sometimes still is, a Boston-based punk band. The original lineup (Mick Keddy, Johnny X, Bill Normal, Denny Disorder) was formed in 1981 and stayed together for several years. Guitarist Johnny X is the only member to be in every lineup. Idol Threats, his previous band, got quite a bit of college radio airplay with their tape “Dance” in 1980.

Kids are for trix, kids are for trix. Don’t tell me that it’s shameful ’cause their homelife was a bitch. Oh yeah!

Pin Point - Richmond 7″

July 20th, 2006 by The Flakes // Drummer

pinpoint_richmond.jpgOne of the most underrated bands here. Maybe cause this their first 7inch is the only one who look somewhat punk. Their LP is fantastic but you can’t tell that from the cover.

From Detour Records page about Pin Point:”I think the album is nothing like we where and I have only bad memories of making it as I hated the producer Martin Rushent he was a horrible cunt, we only done 3 gigs after that album and split up, the bass player became Rushent’s engineer, and worked on the “Dare” album by the “Human League”, if you listen to that album you can hear loads of sounds that Rushent used Pinpoint as guinea pigs for, I blame him for us splitting up.“.

July 20th, 2006 by The Flakes // Drummer

manicdepressives.jpgGoing Out With The In-Crowd where comped on Back To Front Vol. 3. But there’s two more great tracks on this rocking 7inch from Lousiannas Manic Depressives. -Don’t you want any bottom into the production? -Fuck you! Punch and bottom is for sissys and those who like Heavy Metal. Excellent thin productin.

Fast Cars - The Kids Just Wanna Dance 7″

July 20th, 2006 by The Flakes // Drummer

fast_cars_kids_cover.jpgTwo great punk/powerpop songs with enough rawness to please the punk purist. I had some mail correspondence with Stuart Murray a couple of years ago regarding my copy:”Hi Peter, I don’t know if Dizzy told you about the signed single, but that was one of the very first singles sold in 1979!!!!! (Dizzy might not have known).

I was suprised when you said you had a signed copy, as we only signed them on the day they were released at the Streets Ahead shop in Altrincham. I asked Dizzy where he got it from and he said it was someone who was at the shop on the day of release, it is genuine because only the band and those that were there on the day would know such information, I have never told Detour, or anyone else for that matter.Could you please send me a scan of the autographs, none of us actually kept a copy so you have a real collectors item !!!!

Bye for now STUART”.

Nice chap and they reformed some years ago. Have released some new stuff and a couple of the new tracks is quite ok but not near the quality of the old stuff. Visit the Fast Cars online: broooooom.
