Dub Rifles - No Town No Country E.P. 7″

July 6th, 2006 by The Flakes // Drummer

dubrifles.jpgAbsolutly awful 7inch except for one track that is really good. Sent to me by Mr. Rob Noxius(Guy Robert Archambue, lewdsnot, zoloft_anaconda) to make up for my loss dealing with him. He sent a bunch of total crap 7inches that he though I could sell. Ha ha what an idiot. According to him every 7inch was worth at least $14. So if anyone want to buy this 7inch for $14 then let me know!

Originally formed in 1980 in Winnipeg, Canada. The Dub Rifles 5 piece line-up (2 saxes, guitar, bass, drums) combined their primary influences of Motown, Stax, punk (60s and 70s variety), dub reggae, and original 60s ska into a highly danceable big rhythm blend that knocked them for a loop wherever they had an opportunity to lay it down.

The Rousers - Magazine Girl 7″

July 5th, 2006 by The Flakes // Drummer

rousers_magazine.jpgAmazing powerpop from the home of B.G.K., Gepopel and Larm. The b-side is a boring rock song with guitar solos! Imagen that! Guitar solos shall be forbidden. Ok, one tone solos done for 5 seconds is ok. Who invented them? Chuck Berry? Nils Lofgren? The guitarist in Swedens Sky High? Please help me solve the quiz.

From the great Punkmodpop site: “1977: Inspired by the new mood in british popmusic the de Jong brothers start the Rousers. In the beginning they mostly play covers: Songs by the Beatles and Buzzcocks and the Damned: It is this combination that would mark their sound, described by the band themselves as “New Beat”…“.

Authorities - Soundrack For Trouble E.P. 7″

July 5th, 2006 by The Flakes // Drummer

authorities_soundtrack.jpg“Play this record loud, play it often, and play it under the influence of large amounts of alcohol.”. The forementioned wise words can be found on the back of the sleeve. I don’t know if “Löken” the basist of the long going swedish HC band Rovsvett and an old friend of mine was drunk when he gave this record to me. I was lucky as hell but never dared to play it drunk though. My first encounter with the Authorities was I Hate Cops on the “We Got Power” compilation and was of course blown away.

I was never kicked out of the band, I quit the band because some of the members were doing Heroin and I knew I didn’t want to die from trying that type of Drug, nore would I ever try it. Also I’m the guy who wrote the song ‘Shot In The Head’.

Killed By Death Radio

July 4th, 2006 by The Flakes // Drummer

As some of you people might remember I started up the Killed By Death Radio station in October 2004. It was hosted at my Laptop at home. I was able to air to about 15 people at the same time but that was it.

The old adress: kbd.the-flakes.com is now obsolete. Click the Killed By Death Radio banner on the left menue and you’re able to listen to all the tracks posted here(almost). Prefered chooice is to use the Flash player since it gives you a list of the songs and you can click around. The radio is powered by Hypemachine. Enjoy!

Pointed Sticks - Lies 7″

July 4th, 2006 by The Flakes // Drummer

pointed_sticks_lies.jpgThis is the third 7inch of the classic Pointed Sticks we’re posting here. Lies is my favourite songs by them next to Somebodies Mom. I’m Numb is good but Nick Jones sounds a little bit too winny here and there. Quit wining and start screaming.

The Busy Signals - Love And Dust E.P. 7″

July 4th, 2006 by The Flakes // Drummer

busysignals_loveanddust.jpgHere’s another fine example that it’s worth to roll up your sleeves and start digging for new bands. Just Wanna Go Out will easily get a place on future punk rock compilations of obscure and lost 7inches from the year 2005.

Why are The Busy Signals so fucking great then? Well an excerpt from an interview in Chicago Reader may reveal a little bit of it:” The Busy Signals have plenty of ambitions, but making it in the music biz isn’t one of them. The local five-piece takes after record-geek favorites like the Kids, Protex, and the Boys — late-70s and early-80s also-rans who played electrifying melodic punk and power pop but barely got within spitting distance of commercial success. “We’re ripping off bands that at their most popular were only marginally popular,” says drummer Frankie Jensen. “Groups that put out a couple great singles, maybe did one album that no one can find anymore, and that was it. It sounds fucking ridiculous, but that’s our goal ultimately.“.

White Heat - Nervous Breakdown 7″

July 3rd, 2006 by The Flakes // Drummer

whiteheat.jpgHey all punk rockers! How’s the mohawk doing? Fine? Ok! Here’s a powerpop tune for you to chew on. The golden year of Hardcore is for me 1983 and for powerpop/punk it’s 1979. How come these years produced such classics? Was it something in the air? Have there been any university studies of these years? The b-side is an awfully bad attempt at reggae.

Here’s Canadas The Tranzmitors doing a cover of Nervous Breakdown. From Newcastle, UK. Released a total of three 7inches and one LP.

XS Energy - Use You 7″

July 3rd, 2006 by The Flakes // Drummer

xsenergy.jpgSounds like it could’ve been recorded at Space Ward Studios. But just listen to what a sound you can get from a 4 track recording. Raw and enthusiastic punk rock blaster. Both tracks are classics! This is their second and last 7inch. “It was recorded on 4 Track at ‘Studio Playground’ in Wragby, Lincolnshire. The fact that their singles were released on ‘Dead Good’ leads many people to believe they were a Lincoln-based band, but the songs were publised by ‘Criminal Records’ in Coventry so it’s also possible that they came from there?“.

Artistic Decline - Four Song E.P. 7″

July 3rd, 2006 by The Flakes // Drummer

artistic_decline.jpgAn underrated 7inch! Great Hardcore from the golden year of 1983. The FLEX Discography site is sometimes hilarious and so wrong in their descriptions of great records: “Simple garage punk with slight pop influence, three faster tracks and one that’s slower & longer. OK, but not too important. [6].“. Ha ha garage punk?? Pop influence?? Where? I don’t hear it. All I hear is a great Hardcore 7inch.

Read more about Artisic Decline and download their whole full length(including the song not posted here): Artistic Decline: Classic L.A. Punk. “From the minutemen we learned that a song could be any length, so songs range from 6 seconds to 3 minutes. D. Boone took us under his wing and got us our first L.A. and Hollywood club shows.”.

Cactus Fossils - No, YOU Listen E.P. 7″

July 3rd, 2006 by The Flakes // Drummer

cactusfossils.jpgAnyone remember what a great year 1989 was music wise? I thought so. Flipside was an amazing papper but when it came to the record label not much great stuff came out of there. What a suprise when I found this one then! Should’ve been a 2 track 7inch instead but that’s life. You can’t have it all your way. Anyone remember the Cactus Fossils?

This has two great tracks with lyrics that matters! Paper Or Plasic?: “Carried in my groceries with one hand today. I bought what I need. Sometime I really can’t believe the shit they want me to buy: nacho cheese pumpkin seeds pine fresh insecticide. Chorus: Freedom up to my knees, this shit I just don’t need. Sometimes I feel like I can’t get my feet. Freedom up my knees. Senators, councilpeople, congressmen televison, telephone, call me up but I’m not home. I can vote for a liar or a hatchetman, if I’m lucky maybe both—turn around and watch them go…“. From Rosemead, California.
