The Basics – Sexual Object E.P. 7″

Not comped as far as I know. Too bad that “Sexual Object” is the only great song on this four tracker. The rest is pretty bland and lame new wave. From Atlanta, USA that’s all I know.

Sexual Object is one hell of a song! The drums are awesome and I’ll have to use them on a song the next time I play drums.
Can’t believe I’ve missed this one before.

This was comped on Hyped To Death. Band also was on the “Standard Deviations” compilation LP featuring all Atlanta bands. Pretty solid comp if you ask me but this is my hometown so I’m bias.

The Basics were one of my favorite Atlanta bands – great to dance to and lots of fun. And Adrianne and Jimmy were great people on top of it! I’d love to be able to get a copy of the disk (or mp3s). I used to have the record, but it’s long gone :-(

    • Candace says:

Oh, well, maybe someone borrowed it like you used to “borrow” other people’s discs? It all comes out in the wash, eventually. Good luck with finding it.
The Basics were totally great, I agree. My favorite memory of them is going to see The Boomtown Rats — in Atlanta — yes, Bob G! — and The Basics opened. What. A. Great. Night.

Her name was actually Avian. Avian and Jimmy. One of the most fun bands of the day. Saw them many times, with Tim Curry, with The Pretenders, The Tourists, etc…. The EP here was, IMHO, excellent, as are the cuts on the hard to find Standard Deviation compilation LP….. They were quite theatrical live. But yes, the EP was produced by my friend Johnny Sandlin, best known for his work producing early Allman Brothers Band LPs, and later Widespread Panic. Would LOVE for you to post the other tracks!

The Basics were playing all over Atlanta late 70s/early 80s. Saw em a time or two I think at the 688. Great band, and ALL of this EP is great. Bought my copy at Wax N Facts when it first came out, after hearing a couple tracks from it on 96 Rock’s homecooking show weekends. Sexual Object obviously got some airplay, but also Slow Motion Suicide. But yeah, like others are saying, plz post all 4 songs. Cheers.

    Begging For Beer
    Fortune Cookie
    John Wayne Gayce

    Loved them!
