V2 – Speed Freak E.P. 7″

v2.jpgA band from the Manchester punk scene along with the Fall , Buzzcocks and Warsaw and containing ex members of the Nosebleeds and Panik.“. Excellent 7inch with two good tracks on the a-side and an awesome one on the flip. Hear they’re still around. I gave a 7inch they released in the ’90s a spin and it was terrible.

    ooh yeah, love this. Classic!

  2. Michael says:

V2’s “Man in the Box” is a million times better.
It was released as a 12″ – recorded LOUD & distorted as hell. It was very popular on San Francisco punk radio in 1978, which is where I heard it (& buying at Rather Ripped).

  3. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Nah that wasn’t so good Michael. Our taste differs.

  4. Michael says:

Yes, tastes do differ – reminds my of what Radio Birdman were doing around the same time.

  5. Karswell says:

Not bad but they’ve totally lifted the riff from KISS’s song Black Diamond…

  6. doodie says:

eh, wot u talking about Karswell

think you’ll find that Man In the Box is from 1978, so, who’s ripping off who

  7. Mookie says:

Is it just me or does ‘Man in the Box’ sound just like ‘Strutter’ by KISS?

  8. Jay Thurston says:

Black Diamond…what a ripoff. Which came first?

  9. i am trying to get hold of a good copy of speedfreak by V2 on vinyl of course, (serious record collector/dj/manc/punk/

    • duffy says:

gave all my 3 V2 records away when i joined up in 1985 . Big mistake wud love to get the 1st 2 back myself . Had speedfreak in red vinyl but think that was the 2nd pressing . Dont know if they would differ in price tho .

  10. Donny says:

Man in the box kicks ass!

  11. Donny says:

But after serious contemplation, i have decided that Black Diamond is better.

  12. Donny says:

Man in the box is a philosophical attack on our “man in the box” culture of violence. Its a pretty brainy punk jab at society and the media. I used to think it was about being stuck in a TV. Then I started a court ordered anger management class and I immediately thought back on this record. Pretty dark and sinister!

  13. Nerdbot says:

Damn, anybody got the lyrics for nothing to do?
Really wanna do a cover of that song.

    • Mark says:

      V2 Nothing to do (Wilks/Standley)

Nothing to do, Nothing to say
Sit here staring at my wall all day

I’m bored I’m bored got nothing to do
I’m bored I’m bored got nothing to say
Pretty soon now I’m going to do something good
Pretty soon now I’m going to get away

Passing time, Walking in straight lines
Bored out of my head, I wish i was dead

      Chorus

      Queue outside the dole office
      Waiting in line
      It doesn’t matter anyhow
      I’ve got lots of time

      Chorus

      Guitar

      I don’t wanna job, Cos i don’t wanna work
But the money that I get is just not enough enough enough

      Chorus

Feeling pretty low, Living with no hope
I wish I was rich, but that’s just a joke

      Chorus x 2

has anyone heard the withdrawn “GEE WHIZZ ITS YOU” 7″ ? Any good?
it can be seen in the V2-section of the “BORED TEENAGERS”-website (administrated by DETOUR records). I recall that in the late 1990s,ELISTA records had one copy of that withdrawn 7″ on sale for approx. 40 UKP.

  15. b e h j a n says:

so it had a reason why it was withdrawn.have to look for a mp3 of that one somewhere. btw, reminds me of the case of 3rd HORRORCOMIC 7″

  16. Mark says:

Yes, you are right, it was crap. I think we sold 50 to a shop in Manchester, then threw the rest on a skip!

  17. duffy says:

i was probably one of the 50 who bought it lol

  18. duffy says:

Can anybody put Nothing to do on Youtube for me be much appreciated. Thanks andy duffy

  19. Michael says:

I finally listened to Kiss’ Black Diamond. V2 obviously ripped the riff, but I still prefer Man In The Box. If I had to state why, probably bacause it’s punchier, angrier and you could actually dance to it.

  20. Gorden says:

    Hi,

does someone has the lyrics of “Man in the box”?
    Thanks in advance,

    Gorden

  21. Kirk says:

“I’m Bored” was a favorite back ’81/82 during a stint at WRUW. Still liking it. Thank you, Rockpool, for distributing those EPs.
