Lubricants – Activated Energy 7″

lubricants_orig.jpgThis is an example of an overrated record. I’ll put it up here so you know what not to spend your hard earned money on. “Activated Energy” was issued on Killed By Death Vol. 12. From Milwaukee, WI and was known as Modern Physics before they changed their name to Lubricants. “Trans-formation Vacation” is ok but WHY in the name do a punk rock song that drags on for 3 minutes and 36 seconds?

I’ve wasted my money on worse. The A side isn’t too bad and the B side’s Ok although as you say it could have been shortened up.

  2. Tony says:

To my ears, “Activated Energy” is a great snotty thuggy track. I agree- “Transformation Vacation” is crap. Have you heard the Lubricants CD that came out about 4 years ago? There’s about 12 or 13 tracks, most of which are raw, snotty stuff, much more so than the single.

  3. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Hi Tony! To me “Trans-formation Vacation” is ok and “Activated Energy” is crap. Anyway, no I haven’t heard the CD. If the songs are as long as those two on here I think I’ll pass. I rarely listen to songs that are over 2:36. When it comes to symphonic rock like: Yes or Rush then it’s another story.

  4. CORPUS 77 says:

WAIT ON A MINUTE, I THINK BOTH TRACKS ARE QUITE GOOD, THAT IS EXCEPT FOR THE BLOODY LENGTH, I COOKED MY DINNER AND FED THE CAT, WHILST LISTENING TO THEM !. KNOCK OFF A MINUTE OFF EACH TRACK BY CUTTING OUT ALL THE CRAP AND IT WOULD BE A CLASSIC

  5. Tony says:

Most songs on the Lubricants CD are pretty short, some maybe even just a minute long. Overblown “rock operas”, “In A Gadda Da Vida”, etc. just make me laugh. That’s funny how you specifically picked 2:36 as the maximum song length you tolerate. I’m now going to closely monitor the postings with a stop watch and make sure nothing is over that length!

  6. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Tony, I’m waiting for your monitor report ;).

  7. patti says:

hey dudes – what’s the skinny on this mp3? when we recorded it we were the modern physics – before that the lubricants and after that the lubricants. I wrote Transformation Vacation. Craig Crabbe wrote Activated Energy. Leroy’s been taking all the credit – he put out the CD without telling anyone so that is not really the Lubricants. Was this 7″ re-released?

  8. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Hi Patti! Yes this 7″ was re-issued some years ago. Think it was Dionysus who re-issued it.

  9. patti says:

    who’s that?

  10. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Ops I thought of The Clap 7″. I have the re-issue in front of me right now. Seems to be a boot. Get in touch in case you want some scans of it. You’ll find the contact link on the left.

  11. Emmet says:

Patti’s correct. Those two songs were written by Craig and herself. Also, I see he’s (Leory) taken credit for “Catalog Boys” on the compulation CD, which I wrote(music & lyrics)by myself. I guess old punks don’t die, they just forget who wrote what and when!

  12. Allie says:

u guys r sssoo mean my uncle was in this band! HANSON 4EVEA!!!!!!

  13. Sean says:

I don’t mind a long Punk song as long as I dig the song. Sometimes I wish certain songs I love would never end. I ended up snagging this on Discogs a while back for $50 and I love both sides. Wouldn’t say they’re amazing, but definitely great. At least to me. And personally, Trans-formation Vacation is my fave of the two. The CD is pretty good to me, Kaka Brain Kid is my most listened to track off it, give it a listen:
