The Reruns – Since You Gotta Cheat 7″

reruns_alone.jpgTake a look at the cover. Who would believe that these nice looking boys could crank out two great punk rock tracks. Yes I’m prejudice. And so are you just admit it. This is their debute 7inch and here’s some info:”The Reruns were a band from Hamtramck and they never let anybody forget that. Their overriding characteristic was a sense of humor that managed to permeate everything they ever did. An short interview in White Noise from 1979 managed to cover the all of the following topics: the closing of the Dodge Main plant in Hamtramck, a stabbing at a recent show, movie host Bill Kennedy and the goofy last names that the Reruns use to protect their real identity.“. Anyone heard their second record?

The a-side of the second single, ‘She Hates Me Now,’ is on the first Teenline on hyped2death. it’s less effective than the first single.

  2. Harry says:

So So Alone is on Screaming Fists vol. 1 aswell as Hyped 2 Death vol. 1…Since You Gotta Cheat is on Teenline too…just saying!

I actually like the second 45 better, although I know I’m in the minority here.

    Brilliant! Thanks.

Love this stuff! What a great gem this band is! Did they make any more records?

  6. Lexi says:

Love the reruns…I only know about them because I am good friends with George Ricardo himself. He looks back on his time with them as just a part of his past…I dont think he realizes how much a part of the punk/Detroit music movement they were.

“So so alone” would stand up as a hit today. I miss the real deal which was The Reruns. But they’re sound lives on in so many others. These guys were true originators that never got the kudos for what they did.

    I’ll forever be a fan.

Lexi how can I get in touch with George. 313-506- eight two 8 one. He used to work for my father and I would really love to say hello. George took me to my very first concert when I was 15 years old.

    Thanks so much for this!

According to their entry in “Who’s New Wave In Music: An Illustrated Encylopedia 1976-1982” they put out a second single on FTM Records “She Hates Me Now” b/w “Bored To Tears”

I have a copy of She Hates Me Now. I’m just a tard when it comes to converting this stuff to mp3’s. I think its a damn good record, though.

  9. Jim says:

I have both singles, too, and saw them live at least once, circa ’78. Definitely good live. “So So Alone” I played so often in the late 70s that it’s ingrained in my brain, I love that song. Even had the guys autograph my copy back then. The second single was a bit less effective. “Since You Gotta Cheat” seemed to me to have a production flaw early on, but by the end, it cranks along nicely.

Three of these guys (Kenny, Dave & Al are in a group called Polish Muslims. Google them and listen.)
