Cone Of Silence – S/T E.P. 7″

coneofsilence.jpgIf they only had stuck to the quality of What’s The Use? then this could’ve been a classic 7inch. That song has all the necessary ingredients of a Southern California punk rock winner. A little too long but it manage to hold the attention. One of the guys even has a moustache!! And we all know that’s a clear sign of a great band.

For once the FLEX! discography and I alomost agree:”Waverock on side A, not too interesting and kind of whiny. B side is a lot better; one tougher waverock tune and one real good melodic punk track. [6].“. It’s not even waverock it’s just rock. Totaly anonymus boring rock.

these mystic records used to be a dime a dozen in southern ca. now not so much. every so often they show up in droves. i think doug moody still has boxes of them, and when he runs out of drug money or whatever, sealed copies of them show up at every store from san diego to bakersfield.

wave rock? new wave? come on. this isn’t fucking O.M.D. or flock of fucking seagulls…and i mean, it may not be a personal favorite of yours but look at it this way, you’re writing record reviews for shit that came out in 1983 – was there anything else halfway decent coming out then? and on a side note, you should consult a dictionary the next time you use the word ‘anonymous’.

Ha ha you\’re coming here to comment for the first time and this is what you had to say. Say hi to mom.

I mean after all you live in “Whittier”. I would expect something more from someone living there ;).

This is a riot! I played guitar on this record. My daughter’s boyfriend tipped me off about this review. Back then we thought we were soooo original. Listening now, we definitely didn’t fit with most of the Mystic stuff and 20 years later it might be a bit generic compared to the other stuff happening at that time.

We had a great time recording this. Doug Moody and Phil were a blast to work with. Oh yeah… T’s moustache was very bitchin!
