The title gave name to a famous series of compilations. And what a song it is! The b-side is great as well. The only complaint I have is that Jesse Lynn-Dean try to imitate those typical Rotten “r”s. But he gets away with it and especially after reading this: from 3RD Generations interview with Jesse in 2004:”Being over the teenage age, how do you view teenagers now? I don’t feel any different now as I did then. I think being a teenager is a licence to express yourself any way you feel and if you piss a lot of people off you are probably on the right track.“.
Head over to The Wasps page over at Punk 77.co.uk to get some snipets of their story. And DON’T miss the link to the press clips with Jesses war aginst the journalists review of the Vortex live LP. Anyone heard the “Punkcryonics” CD?
Country: UK
Year: 1977
Label: 4 Play
Format: 7″
Songs:
Teenage Treats.mp3
She Made Magic.mp3
The Wasps “Punkryonics” CD is pretty good, “Teenage Treats” sounds like it may have been mastered from vinyl, whilst “Rubber Cars” is a rougher version than the single (I actually prefer the more polished 7″). The sound quality varies elsewhere, a lot of tape hiss on one or two tracks. The best song apart from “Teenage Treats” is “Run Run Angelica” which was later covered by The Favourites.
Aha!!! I thought that was an original by The Favourites! Thanks for the info James. Always appreciated.
Yeah the CD is kinda patchy but it has it’s moments. “Run Run Angelica” & “JJJJenny” are great but nothing can top the awesomeness of “Teenage Treats”.
They lyric that goes “put me down for some this” says it all! One of the truly greatest punkpoppers. Anyone ever heard Jesse Lynn Dean’s solo single “Do It”?
THE WASPS CD IS GREAT, WITH THE RUBBER CARS (RAW EDIT)VERSION MUCH MUCH BETTER. THE FAVOURITES SONG WAS ANGELICA (MINUS THE RUN RUN PART) I CONTACTED Jesse Lynn-Dean TO ASK HIM ABOUT THE CONNECTION, THE FAVOURITES WERE ON THE SAME LABEL.
CHEERS CORPUS 77
I like the cd,it is patchy,but if your a fan…
“pogo powder, perfect bliss , put me down for some of this “glad you enjoyed the lyric , it was so true
Jesse Lynn-Dean
I had never heard this before. Fuck me, this is one incredible record! Why isn’t this band still talked about??? Great stuff.
You’re kidding me Jay? Wasps are a pretty well known old band that I think some comp. CDs been made of. They’re also doing some great tracks on the Vortex comp.
Not to forget there’s a whole comp. series named after the title track :).
Honestly, I only have the live Vortex album, but never heard this 7″…it is incredible. I missed the boat on this one.
I envy you! Hearing this for the first time. Must be like having sex with dad at the age of 10.
Anyone ever heard Jesse Lynn Dean’s solo single “Do It

Steve Wollaston – prinicple bass guitarist of The Wasps – says:
Nice to see the bands still talked about!
You are more famous today than you were back then! What now?

I was just hanging at my pre-Valentine’s day party at my company Lawson Software. We were talking about our boring married lives. I mentioned that I am totally bored with my wife, and I reluctantly admitted my interest in barely-legal men. The dullard straight men acknowledged my plight and admitted to being bored with their wives. We all agreed (after my howlings in favor of boy-meat) that teenaged-girls would solve our problems. The Wasps are punk!
Ha ha ha wtf :D.
