As stupid (but in a way pretty funny) this aka crash guy was, this should not be a witch hunt forum on bootleggers!!!
No one is forced to buy their stuff, but if some people do, they are maybe not in the position to have itunes etc to download the stuff (they even wont know great pages like this).
And in the case of mediablitz I think its not expensive and well done.
NO, I dont know any of this guys personal, and I dont deal with bootlegs…
But I bought some stuff in the last years, that was not official in the shops to get, so…?!

Re: MediaBlitz77. I have lots of live bootlegs I recorded, most of which I asked the bands if it was ok to record and some which I sneaked in a tape recorder to avoid being confiscated by bouncers. Even if I sold copies of this unique material I would not charge the prices this guy is for stuff he is just copying. Many of us realize this but there most be kids out there that think this is original as he puts it “new never played”. I think I’ll copy the same stuff he is selling and offer it at cost. This would drive him out of “business”.
Back in the days when bootleggers pressed their own records on vinyl, I guess it was “more legal” to buy the stuff ’cause the records were exclusive.
But to put out CDr records with cheap covers (and not even write it out in the auctions) is just a pure fucking scam.
I have given away (or traded) material with never released Swedish punk-material just to share, but then it had been sold for a lot of cash on eBay/Tradera just because there is a lot of money in scamming punk-collectors. And that sux….
But then again, it was 25 years ago I was a punk so what do I know…

some of the covers (like MODERN WARFARE) are so extremely cheap and obviously home-made, you can’t possibly take this for a legit release.
but yeah, of course I don’t like these boots and the fact that they are a double-theft: from the band and from the ones ripping them. but that’s the problem: our little blogs are neither without a certain irritating aspect: we too didn’t ask the artists. Anyway, the big problem for me is that they let people BID on badly made CDR boots that can be replicated over and over again. And in most cases downloaded for free
So no I don’t have a problem with the bootleging thing itself. But are these people really interested in the music they’re bootleging? Considering the cheap work they’ve done apparently not.

What about us? We don’t ask the bands for permissions either as you pointed out Erich. But in most cases it’s impossible to get hold of the bands posted here. And most of the stuff is not in print.
Gavin from Private Dicks told me their LP have been available all over the net still it sold out. And I think most people in here will actually try to get hold of many of the stuff they get to hear here.
We bascially agree, there’s no doubt about this. I’m just trying to say that the problem has different aspects. To me, the tricky question (it’s maybe a question of morality and not so much of jurisprudence) is the fact that in both cases (bootleging andd blogging) the fundamental right of the artist being in control over his/her work is disrespected.
It depends on how these issues are being handled. But in the end, with every record we encode and make accessible, we’re spreading it, giving it out the hands of those who might claim authority over its contents. As far as distribution and reproduction go, mp3 files are even more difficult than limited vinyl pressings: Their potential of reproduction is literally unlimited.
I said that before: I know both sides very well. I had a band and released records by other bands etc. that were often bootleged. Sometimes, you feel honored when you spot one of them boots as this is one aspect that bootleging shares with blogging: It’s a sort of acknowledgment, be this acknowledging for commercial or other reasons. Digital bootlegs like unauthorized mp3 files being available on “fan sites” (like those awful myspace pages etc.) of in file sharing programs do not affect me any different: I first hought, oh, this is nice to see. Now, it just pisses me off, because nobody asked me or the others involved for authorisation. Something you created just gets worked with without you havingany form of control over it. To me, if “punk” was anything, then it was the artists autonomity (to whatever degree) over his/her work.
But it’s not that easy: Bootleging on the other hand is again an act of appropriation of what was formerly called “fan” or “consumer”, so yes, it has itself a very progressive and emancipated aspect too. But as you see – these two sides potentially clash.
I have no solution other than thinking the whole entertainment sphere (Adorno and Horkheimer called this “culture industry” 60 years ago already!) has become exactly that: a sphere of its own. What we do with it, whether we just drown in mp3 files (in this context) or whether we do something worthwhile with it is to some extent one of the challenges we as distributors of music face.
