Nasty Facts – Drive My Car E.P. 7″

I’m trying out a new format for the postings. Maybe it will be even more fun for everybody as I try to scan most of the material related to the post. The pictures are also bigger!

Most of you’ve probably heard one of the best punk/powerpop 7inches ever released. But hopefully this will be new to some here. I post it cause this is one of those that shouldn’t be missed.

The one and only release from N.Y. Nasty Facts. Ok, not quiet true since they did release a CD EP two years ago. It’s not that bad actually! The winner is Drive My Car which is bordering on how the Descendents later sounded. Words can’t describe how great this little bit of plastic is. There’s a european pressing of this out on 5th Column too.

Nastyfacts made quite an impact on the early NY punk/new wave scene, especially considering that they only released one 3-song 45, and were just teenagers at the time.

  2. Senap says:

    Awesome, dude!

  3. malfeitor says:

Jimboco released a weird mix of stuff didn’t they? Is it the same label the TMA record is on?

  4. anna says:

Nice! I posted this a couple months ago on Pure Mania, cool to see it up again here! Great single!!

  5. E. says:

Essential. And those bigger scans are way better and showing the labels is killer!. I used to include label scans too, but it’s such a shitload of work.

  6. metalfreak says:

wow…it really sounds great! thank you man!

But I hope I will see posted here one day The Zones and Cybermen…

  7. Jim says:

One of the best ever records and an excellent post!

The European pressing you refer to was pressed in France and released on the UK (English) based label 5th Column. This label also released the Virus – Stepping Stone 7″ around 1982 I think.

Can anyone here let me know where I can hear the Violators – My Country (b-side for NY Ripper). I used to have this on tape but it broke….

  8. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Malfeitor, I’ve recently seen a couple of other Jimboco releases go on eBay but ain’t got a clue what they sound like. Mostly the description in the auctions says:”powerpop”. About TMA I ain’t now nuthing either.

  9. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Jim, I used to have the NY Ripper 7inch. Higly overrated in my opinion so I got rid of it. I didn’t even record it for myself.

  10. Nneka says:

I have never posted a comment on here before even though I come here regularly cause this blog is awesome, but Nastyfacts is one of my all-time favorite bands and “Drive My Car” is one of my favorite songs, so I have to say thank you for posting this!

  13. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Ha ha I shold’ve known that since I now saw that I got both the TMA LPs. That’s a great resource Leffe. Have you invested in the book?

  14. EddieFuror says:

Such a classic! Is this going up on ebay?

  15. Leffe says:

Peter, yes I’m a contributor to the book. But everyone can contribute info.Joachim is still looking for missing records, release nrs. and label logos.Anyone can contact him. He’s a nice guy.2nd edition will probably be out in January 2007 with loads of ‘new’ labels added.Deadline for this edition is October the 31th.

  19. onychotillomaniac says:

God bless you for keeping the “stay right here we’re gonna do one more” in between the last two songs. Unlike other posts of this 45! How can somebody leave that out?! Thanks again!

  20. Harry says:

  22. The Flakes // Drummer says:

“any and all references to our songs without prior approval (ny ripper, my country as well as name, artwork, logo, etc. all trademarked & copyright) will be subject to lawsuit per Rich Wretch and Jim Revenge…pass it on; one and only warning!!! Thanks! Violators” Guess you could be sued now stivcat.

  25. Biff Scooter says:

This is one of the greatest punk records I have ever bought but I often wondered why they never came out with an LP. A slice of unreal energy and poof! gone after just one single. Ah, the nostalgia (for nature to come?).

  26. MR EARL says:

THE VIOLATORS ARE AND HAVE NEVER ..POOF…BROKEN UP..AS I KNOW THIERPUBLISHERS AND FRIEND AT BMI THEY HAVE BEEN WORKING ON A MAJOR NEW RELEASE OF OLD AND NEW STUDIO AND LIVE FROM MAXS KANSAS CITY-CBGBS-A7-SHOWPLACE ETC, CALLED VIOLATORS-Headquarters!–awsome and puts many live punk bands to shame ..i heard some of the mixing and they were/are so damed tight and possibly the best punk/underground classic rocknroll from nyc after the Ramones and Heartbreakers and Smithereens!!! Peace! Mr. Earl

  27. The Flakes // Drummer says:

“…and possibly the best punk/underground classic rocknroll from nyc after the Ramones and Heartbreakers and Smithereens!!! ” I highly doubt it.

  28. speedo says:

i always went to thier gigs…mr earl is right on about the violators being the top nyc classic rock bands!! Ya had to be there…cant wait for new record!! hope they get thier friends from smithereens and bobby steele to join them on the new release gig i heard is gonna be happening from a friend from the old days!! The best gigs i seen them at maxs kc when The Late Great Johnny Thunders used to show up after the Violators second shows and jam with them!! The best Gigs ever for sure!!! and the lead guitarist Steve Fixx and Drummer Rich Wretch and bass player Jim Revenge were and i hear still are the tightest most musically proficent nyc rockers of all time for sure!! I cant believe the books that have just come out in the last few years that give them all the critics raves they deserve! The 45 and ep jump off the turntable and pleasantly send a good ol sonic punch that todays records abd productions srely lack!! Thanx Mr. Earl for the info!!!

  29. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Mr Earl is right ha ha? How come Mr Earl and speedo is the same person?

  30. Recording Engineer from Texas says:

such a small freakin world! I just got this webpage emailed about the Violators…Great news!! Im still in touch with a couple of the guys from Legionares Disease i helped mix Rather see you dead (than with wool on yer hesd) 45 all those years ago and went to new York with them in 1980 tour with Violators ….the best gigs, not just nostalgia..ive never seen any better, crowded, best received and reviwed shows since…all the guys got on greatly and appreciated the comraderie from the fellas in the Violators and the staff at Max’s..just dug out an old copy of MOTR/mouth of the rat which did a couple of issues covering those great nights and i know some folks who did these reviews abd put them in some book by a guy named Gardner and another from a book by Outcry fanzines…gonna post this stuff to the major Texas Music media…Take care and great news!!!Maxs Kansas and Botany gigs were somthing special!!!-

  31. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Ok Mr Earl, speedo and now you´re calling yourself Recording Engineer from Texas. Got your message. Heard of IPs?

  32. Jim Revenge says:

    Hey Flakes / Drummer,
Sorry you thought the Violators were overated. Just a bunch of teenagers with big dreams. Interestingly though is that 29 years after the tracks were laid people are still voicing their opinions about them. Love’m ,Hate’m or indifferent it’s still a kick in the pants that they are not forgotten. Mr. Wretch is correct though about the legal thing. KBD is a double edged sword. Bootlegged the recordings but futhered the exposure. I hope people will be discussing your band in 30 years time. You all seem doing ok with your dreams and ambitions. Rock on.

  33. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Don’t feel sorry. It’s just the way it is. People think the same way about my old shitty hardcore band Raped Teenagers(ty to google them). But Jim don’t get bitter ;).

  34. Jim Revenge says:

Hey, know bitterness here. Not quite sure what your beef is. Let’s just say your not a fan, that’s O.K. I think I can get over it. As a matter of fact there are many bands out there that are very popular and not so popular that I don’t like too. And, if asked, I share my views.

  35. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Cool then let’s close this discussion since this post is really about Nasty Facts :).

  36. ba-ba says:

ba-ba, I always heard ‘Drive My Car’ as

I’m not as strong as I look. I’m not as stoned as I seem.
I’d rather dance than read a book. I’d rather drive my car than dream.

  38. Patte Oldschool says:

Just luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuv it! Drive My Car is such a great song and I’m lucky I found this EP some 15 years ago.

  39. Anonymous says:

check out the song Nasty Facts by Outdates

  40. charlie barnes says:

    re: lyrics

I always heard it as: I’m not as drunk as I look/I’m not as stoned as I seem

    everything else I agree with.

great song, def. one of greatest punk singles ever ever ever

  41. Stig Dangerman says:

I thought it was: “I’m not as hung as I look, I’m not as gonad as I seem.” Though I’d much rather read a book (say, Knausgaard’s “Mein Kampf”) than prance, this single is awesome.

    • charlie barnes says:

You deserve to be sprinkled liberally with a stranger’s urine and then spanked with a rotten flounder for that.

      • Stig Dangerman says:

Hahaha! I prefer to be spanked with Bataan Carp (or half-erect Swedish blogger cock!) because you can never guess their “slant.” You ‘re obviously a fucking hippie!

  42. Break Up Art says:

Was Ted Leo In This Band?

  43. Harry says:

I’d rather dance than read a book.

    So true.

  44. Bones Malone says:

Anyone have details about the center label variations on the US pressing of this? I see two versions:
“small hole-blue paper-lady dancer” center more often than the “large hole-blue paper-JIMBOCO company logo” like you have scanned here. Thanks for the website and any info.

    • Josh says:

Hey Bones, I just realized that my copy is the small hole. I wasn’t aware of the label variations. I’m curious what the deal with that is as well. Which was first? Any sharp eyes notice sleeve variants?
