From the same label that released the incredible The Skinnies 7″(coming up don’t worry) and the not so great The Buns 7″. The dubing of the vocals that is then paned left and right makes up for a very special sound. As soon as you hear the guitar lead in the beginning of Almost Ready you know you’re up for a tasty treat.

One of the best punk 45’s to come outta the south!…You might still be able to dig up the collection cd “Your Punk Heritage” that came out in the late 90’s…Someone needs to put that shit to vinyl. I’m in contact with a guy who supposedly has early video footage(vhs)…I hope that pans out!
i had the orginal single too,what a killersong,kills your ears….
Airline 61’s great compilation CD of these guys, with probably everything in existance, is a ‘gottagettit’.
Awesome punk 45. Before I knew I thought it was European for sure. Dutch or something like that.
not quite everything in existance!…just got these words from Dave Normal, about a cd coming out in November on the Jap label Nat Records:
>Almost Ready, Hardcore & Demented Breakdown are the only tracks you’ve heard from the Punk Heritage Cd. The rest are unreleased and unheard versions unavailable to this day.
>….these unheard tracks are studio demos from 78! should be awesome!
If you’ve seen the doc film “DOA”, the bass player of The Normals is attacked by fans and has his jacket ripped off, revealing a “Normals” t-shirt.
“Your Punk Heritage” definatley is worth tracking down.

Me wants to hear that cd.
One of the best 7″s ever!
“Almost Ready” is awesome.
Fantastic single. Almost Ready is one of the best punk songs ever. The CD is definitely worth getting. “Yankee Dollar” is a total classic tune that needs to be put to vinyl some day.
aside from the upcoming nat records cd, there has been talk of a 7″ too…not sure if it’s going to be a reissue of almost ready / hardcore or unrelased tracks.
Fuck!!! I first heard this 7″ 10 years ago and I never get tired of listening to it! The guitars are so massive on this 7″! Too bad these guys never got their day in the sun (see the liner notes for the “Your Punk Heritage” CD). They had a bunch of great unreleased songs. About 9 years ago (before the reissue CD came out) someone taped me a 90 minute Normals cassette he compiled that has the whole unreleased “Vacation Is For You” LP, a bunch of live stuff, some other studio demos, as well as a long interview with the band from 1980 after they relocated to New York City. Some of the unreleased stuff ended up on the reissue CD and the sound quality was a lot better than the cassette of mine.
Needless to say I would love to get a copy of that CD (where??) and the cassette …..
Tony, if you happen to be able to do some trading for the Normals stuff you got please get in touch. If you could make a CDR or whatever. I’ll sell the CDR on eBay later on of course ;).
The CD came out in early ’98 but seems to be out of print now. Probably some on eBay, like everything else is. The CD was on Airline 61 Records, and they used to have a website but it seems to be gone now. The label name refers to Highway 61 that runs past N’Leans airport and downtown. E-mail me at azupop-at-hotmail-dot-com about that cassette.
I READ A STORY ONCE THAT SAID THEY RECORDED A UN RELEASED ALBUM. IS VACATION IS FOR YOU THAT RECORD? AND IF SO HOW COULD I GET A LISTEN TO IT? IV’E ALLWAYS WANTED TO HEAR IT. ANY INFO WOULD BE APPRECIATED.
THANKS
What a great band. Best live shows in NOLA back in the day. Love these guys. I have both CDs and original vinyl and the compilation that I can’t remember the title.
Those were strange days. I sang backup with Dave on Almost Ready.
