The Wayward Youth – El Mundo 7″

Another killer 7inch from New Orleans. The hometown of fine acts like The Normals and The Skinnies.

Two wonderful tracks that can be played over and over again. Too bad they decided to tune the guitar and bass against each other on Do You Wanna. On El Mundo they didn’t give a fuck and it gives it a special aura.

By the way, take a look at the fine design of the record label logo.

This was posted some time ago at Strange Reaction:”…at a time when hey bras and hard rock ruled Metairie and punks were considered social outcasts, he put The Normals and the Buzzcocks on the jukebox, much to the chagrin of everyone at Pizza Inn except me.

I don’t have this, but swear I have heard El Mundo a few times. Was it comped or did someone cover it?

I had one of these 45’s from a friend, who was related to Darius. They were and still are heroes!

Hey Peter, how about a post of the very nice No Questions No Answers comp LP released by Final Solution as well as I’m sure you’re not letting me post it.

  6. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Ha ha been thinking about buying it since it’s so cheap nowadays and I’m sure there must be some great tracks on it. You can post it! I have too much shit to post myself.

I used to go see these guys when I was super young as my brother worked at Jed’s, the local NOLA Punk club. They were considered a Pop band pretty much, but would play with all the other groups like the Contenders, Rat Finks (pre-Red Rockers), Hostages, the Plague, 30 Second Flash, Totally Cold, the Ditty etc… One of the great early records from our much overlooked N’awlins Punk scene.

So “W. Moreaux” is actually my dad on set (x at the end was a misspell). Man I could share some stories about “El Mundo” aka “Eddie the Man” lol. He used to come by the house all the time throughout my youth. Dude really was a weirdo! He passed away a few years ago though. But he still keeps in touch with Darius. He actually came by the house to visit & bs with my dad just recently. My dad was telling me about how he met a local music agent at a crawfish boil for his company last Friday as they had a local band out there playing, and dude kept telling him he knows the el mundo song and that they’re pretty famous, at least locally. Started going on about some of the bands they opened for at different venues back in the day. Even asked him if he could get all the band members together for an interview! Crazy sh*t aye? Small world, I guess.
