Oh my! That’s how I want my snare to sound! Listen to the intro to Teenage Kicks. Amazing. So punchy and crispy. My favourite track is Smarter Than You tightly followed by True Confession. Roaring guitar sound topped with one of the best and most original voices found in the old stinky thing called punk. Anyone heard the reformed Undertones without Feargal Sharky?

I like emergency cases alot. teenage kicks is allways good. I’ve seen some videos of the new undertones and I must say the new guy do a really good job.

  2. The Flakes // Drummer says:

You are a real raggare Johan :).

  3. Gar says:

Yep, seen them with the new lineup and it’s enjoyable enough!
BTW – total hats off for this site. top class!!
    Cheers

  4. ken helwig says:

Love the Undertones and think that the new singer is just as good as Fergeal. I think that he sung for the Sawdockters or something. Nice guys and they deserve what good things come their way.

BTW read the book It Makes You Want To Spit. It is a history of NI punk rock, and well worth the effort!!!!

  5. Trucha says:

If by original you mean that the singer sounds as if he’s got a rubber band cinched around his testicles, then yeah, I guess so.

  6. The Flakes // Drummer says:

    Yepp, that’s what I mean.

  7. h-bomb says:

saw them several times with the “new guy”. 1st time I was very impressed. He was not trying to be like Fergeal, but just being himself. But his voice is really alike, and the band was playing a really powerful set. Just close your eyes and you could be watching them in the end of the 70’s

  8. jay says:

Classic single. When I DJ I’ll sometimes play “Teenage Kicks” followed by the Misfits’ “Some Kinda Hate.”

And just to echo everyone else, I saw the Undertones in Chicago with the new guy, and thought he was fantastic. They did a good job of finding someone who can pull off the old material without directly mimicking Feargal Sharky.

  9. Tony P. says:

I believe this was St. John Peel’s all-time favorite record. Yes, SAINT John Peel. Will there ever be another champion of DIY music like him (I bet he’s spinning “Teenage Kicks” in rock heaven)?

If the audio blog is the new radio, then you guys deserve to be prime candidates for sainthood (to this new KBD-R convert, sharing all your rare vinyl with the masses is a divine act). Hallelujah!

  10. anti-pesto says:

I totally agree w/ h-bomb. they were simply fantastic when they played germany like 3 yrs ago. played at least an hour before they came back on stage for more songs twice. You could hardly hear the difference to FS. so good.
    I need a mars bar!

  11. Tony says:

C’mon! The Undertones without Feargal Sharkey is like the Germs without Darby. I say why bother “reuniting” without original members who made the band what it was.

  12. SwePete says:

OOHH! The soundtrack of my sweet innocent youth! And it´s still brill!!! But soon did I discover a habit that sticks…..

  13. SwePete says:

Never had the single though. I was more a 12 inch man in those days…

  14. Degenerateen says:

I love The Undertones. Great, great single!! John Peel’s The Story of the Undertones: Teenage Kicks is a cool little movie about the band. See if you have the chance. It’s on dvd.

  15. Jerk Ass says:

I sold this 7″ a few years ago for Fifty American. I dont miss it one bit, with the CDs.

  16. Johan says:

    Flakes dumber.
What can I say? I love punkrock (and some rock n roll) I don’t have a driverlicens. Walk or drive around on my really old moped. I might be a ragger…

    …or a nerd, you tell me. http://www.garbagedump.se/moppe002.jpg

  17. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Ahhh please give me that moppe :). Though I would trade the skull for a cauliflower.

  18. Johan says:

it’s not in that good shape anymore :( but I might pimp it up again this spring, so it’s ready for some crusin’ this summer

  19. The entire s/t album is a classic. I’m jealous that you’ve got this – I have a few undertones singles, but not this one!! I also saw them live a couple years ago with Paul, their new singer, and was thoroughly impressed. Singers are hard to replace successfully.

With regards to my new blog, I”m trying to make a comeback. I’m re-vamping it as I type this and it should be up by next week!

  20. mike says:

hi all, i have this song on pink pic sleeve and white sleeve, are they both rare?

    thanks

  21. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Looking forward to your new blog Anna. Let me know when it’s up and if you got a new nifty banner to put at the top over here.

Peter why does Erich hate colored people so much?

  23. Anonymous says:

Oh, yeah and he deleted a comment that took MXV’s position on The Cheifs EP.

  24. Anonymous says:

If you type “I too agree with MXV” Erich will delete it. I can just see his little glazed rat eyes teem with frustration as his fat face vibrates and he deletes another comment.

  25. Anonymous says:

    Read this

“Milky, you idiotic cowardish wanker, I will delete all of your shit. I understand you feel rejected by me – please go seek another father figure.”

“Haha, milky and maybe one other little prick again. Well, I’ve met so many of them in my life. When you see them, they’re quite shy little boys, probably asking for an autograph after 5 minutes. Sweet.”

Does he really think he is some kind of celeb and the least bit of attention someone pays him is a sort of envy?

To Erich Keller and the “Grindcore” “Hardcore” and “Death Metal” genres

    FINAL MESSAGE
Erich, I’m thinking about coming to Sweden and FUCKING YOU IN THE ASS. How bout I analize that Swedish butt, rape it, make it bleed, make you feel as if your hole never had a wrinkle at all?

I’ll be YOUR father figure, you’ll cry “DADDY” and “DADDY MORE”!

Make you suck your own shit debri out of my piss-slit, clip the tip of your nose off with fabric scissors… Make you cry “Daddy” “Daddy no it hurts”
I could do all this and more, but it need not be for I am everything you wish you could be. Now, get on your scabby knees and pray to my godly essence, I am what all of you have dreamed of and wished for.

    I declare total sonic-war against:
    Hardcore
    Grindcore
    Death Metal
    Black Metal
    Noise Rock
    Crust
    etc

I will prevail and you will all fall in moans of sorrow. I will drown all of you in the blood of my soul and fluid of my brain.
I am the kingdom of light given flesh.
I am the jester opening the doors leading to corridors unseen. I am eroticism and exorcism.

Expect very interesting sights/sounds to arise soon.

I’ve noticed that no one understands sarcasm at all ;lines “like corridors unseen” are intended to be funny in context. Call it “Ha ha.. Only serious” when behind a joke lies something else, but this is to be seen later.

However, I am dead serious that I wan’t to make fools out of the grindcore puds. I will do it.

Peter, you should have had the “good bad” link redirect to goatse, it would be more fitting— an asshole for the an asshole.

  28. steve says:

Comment 20: pink – wanna swap for something?

Comment 26: it’s the ‘fabric’ scissors bit that I like!

  29. milky says:

    Thanks Steve,

  30. steve says:

Why is “steve” in “Name” and the Lowdown kids as Website? :-D

  31. bingobiscuit says:

    re: Comment 30
    I didn’t say that.

  32. Roger says:

..the ‘Tones in 2007 are of course different, but still a good band. Paul is a good singer and a nice people, no prob , but Feargal was a killer singer (performer?), I don’t like to hear old school / die hard fans blame it about this or that…
…anyways i’m addicted since Sept ’78 and still fan in ’07 and will make Manchester 17th March!

  33. Rev.Sin says:

You havnt lived until youve seen Terri Hooley who found GOOD VIBRATIONS preform Teenage Kicks or his own classic Laugh At Me. Ive a DVD kicking about of him warming up for The Undertones in Berlin a few years ago, the mans a legend and without him we wouldnt have the mighty Undertones.
I have a copy of the original EP with a pink fold around cover (it was issued with a yellow cover) my sources inform me that they ran out of yellow paper and used pink on some, though Ive no idea of how many where produced.

  34. steve says:

    Rev.Sin and Mike –
wanna trade your pink sleeve copies? I’d also be interested in anyone’s yellow, blue or green copies.

    Cheers,
    Steve
