Eric over at Something I Learned Today have posted this before here. Don’t forget to check out the first Eat 7″ posted there too which is better then this their second effort. So why another post of this? Mainly cause I want to post the sleeve, inserts and lyric sheet(I miss the sticker here though) plus all in all it’s a great record. If we didn’t had the Communist Radio to compare with I think this one would’ve been more appreciated? Very varied. From punky powerpop to the more plain simple punk that we all learned love.
“…the Eat was banned from the local Agora Ballroom for some comment Eddie made about being “the only punk band in Miami with no jews and no queers”… well, fuck ’em if they can’t take a joke. Been to any Agora Ballrooms lately? I’ve been to an Eat show…”

Did they really insert a 1980 Topps baseball card? Was it a different one in each copy?
Imagine having this release an the Rickey Henderson rookie card as the insert?!?
yes they did and i still have mine. they also inserted star trek sticker cards.
i got tom seaver (reds), spock lives, mr.spock-unearthy, and scotty…..
they were always the clever joksters….still are!
my ex gf grew up with these guys and got me one in the early 80’s after it showed up on one of tim y’s lists and i was all… YOU KNEW THE EAT?!!!!… mine had a different baseball card, AND a one dollar bill as inserts.
I have twelve thousand copies of this record and all of them have different baseball cards in them. I also know every member of the band because I used to have sex with them…….no really Im not lying.
The first copy of this I bought in Florida in 86 I brought home and at home, I threw away the extra inserts cause I thought a kid had put them in the record, haha. Later I sold the record. Nw I regret it.
this is one of my faves. the eat are one of the best from the US in my useless opinion. my copy has a different baseball card, and i didnt get a sticker either. the follow up stuff is kind of “meh” but i like it anyway. UP THE EAT!
Big ups to “Nut Cop,” IMHO. Also, I do happen to have Rickey Henderson’s rookie card (but not as a result of having this album).
This EP sounds great to me except for the song “Silly Drug Songs”. My copy has the big yellow and red-colored round sticker but not the baseball card or the lyric insert. When I was a kid I used to collect baseball cards, so maybe I should just put in a 1980 Topps card and pretend like my copy came with it. Someone did a nice bootleg of this EP about 5 years ago that had a thick black and green-colored repro of the sleeve along with a few extra cuts and a booklet.
this is good shit. Thanks
Simply put, one of the greatest punk records ever released. The “bootleg” version from the mid/late ’90’s I believe was okayed by the band members. I also hear rumors from time to time (although completely unverified) that Alternative Tentacles was planning on doing a discography and I’m pretty sure this record was supposed to be one of Jello’s faves.
Oh yeah, and the “Scattered Wahoo Action” cassette and subsequent limited 10″ is also really good. It’s a little bit more “rock n roll” than the 2 7″s, but there are some amazing tracks on it.
Yes! This is what they call “the shit”. The trashed out recording, the great hooks, and amazing lyrics can’t be beat. This really makes me proud to be a South Floridian. Thanks for putting this up for people to hear, kbdrecords.
In 1997, the great ‘zine SCAM had an interview with some guys from The Eat who, at the time, said that a retrospective CD was supposed to come out on some label called Star Crunch Records (the zine had an ad from said label as well in the same issue with the Eat CD as “coming soon”). But the CD never came out. Someone told me a story a few years ago as to why the CD never came out but I forget the story…
tony,
if you see that fan-club 2nd EAT 7″e.p. with the thick card-board sleeve and add.cuts, that you mention here, please tell me
too bad a RAVE-UP Recs (Italy) didnt happen but maybe someday on ALTERNATIVE TENTACLES??? the band obviously knows pretty well the collectibility and hype so is reluctant yet with all the 500+ labels/fans wanting to do a re-issue… (this band/releases demand really a full LEGIT posthumous album! instead a crappy “fan-club” issue …)
It’s all coming out June 19th on Alternative Tentacles.
No big deal, especially when compared to the first 7″.
Why don´t give a positive comment about the first 7″ instead of complaining about this?
Thanks for supporting The Eat all these years! Alternative Tentacles has reissued these songs as part of a band authorized release. Please support the band by substituting http://www.alternativetentacles.com/product.php?product=1421 for the existing download link. For a promo track contact Alan Schneider at comm@alternativetentacles.com. Thanks very much!
