Todays flea market find:$2. The Maroons really hard to get 7 inch. I hadn’t heard it but seen it on some big collectors want lists. What a great surprise that it’s a killer one too! Some punked up 60’s influenced stuff here. For all you pop nerds that have been missing the powerpop lately shall have a close listen to Out Tonight. Complete with hand claps and sugary harmonies. Short and sweet just the way I like it.

No Condition is a chopped up killer track with awesome vocals and great drumming. I know absolutely nothing about this band. Anyone?

I’m so amazed to find your site. My name is Russell Bianca and I was the lead singer, songwriter and guitarist of the Maroons We had a great time being in the band in NYC from 1978 to 1981. This record was recorded on 8-track in a studio called Dreamland on E. 17th St in NYC. We played all the clubs several times–Max’s Kansas City, CBGB, Kenny’s Castaways, The Ritz. We nearly got a record deal with the new (at the time) Virgin records in 1980, but management problems got in the way of that. We disbanded in 1981 and went our separate ways. Two of us (myself and the drummer, Sean) are Art Directors at magazines in NYC. I also teach karate here in Brooklyn. Our bass player, lucky bastard, is a (very talented) professional musician to this day. Our other singer/guitarist, Kate is living in Vermont with her three kids. I still play every day, but haven’t played in public in ages. I look back fondly on those fun days playing the club scene in NYC during the punk/new wave era. those were great times.
Thanks to everyone who posted the complimentary comments. It’s great to hear good things about the material you were so passionate about!

Hi Russell, I have found this web page and had the opportunity to hear your single: I was really amazed by its coolness!

As I like it sooo much, I am asking you if there is some chance to get a copy…

Thanx for now, hope to hear from you.

      Ciao!!

      • I got it for a mere $48 on ebay today.

      • Russell says:

Thanks, Flebo! I don’t have any extra vinyl/45s of No Condition — unfortunately, I git rid of a couple of boxes of them in one of my many apartment/house moves in the last 25 years or so. I do have one, but I’m hanging on to that one. It’s gratifying to hear that there’s still interest in it.

    Catchy!

  8. Martin says:

Out tonight is a total killer! Sounds a bit like the Diskettes, a Canadian indie-do woop trio that was around in the early 2000s.

    • Russell Bianca, The Maroons says:

Thanks, Martin! Appreciate the input. It was a fun song to play live in the clubs, like CBGB, Max’s etc.
