Maybe you’ve heard Corporate Food on the infamous, and probably one of the most important US punk compilations ever: Let Them Eat Jellybeans. But what strucked me is that I really needed to hear Corporate Food again but this time in it’s original format to be able to fully appreciate its greatness. I can’t even remember hearing it on LTEJ. Probably I thought it was too fucked up or something to like it back then. But today my kids I have to say it’s one of the best songs I’ve heard in a long time. So wacky. So much “fuck you” attitude it hurts lies buried in this masterpiece. The guitar solo brings Geza X to mind for some reason. Sounds so controlled yet like he couldn’t care less if it would fit. Amazing.

Snake Attack is far from Corporate Food. Put on your Residents/Snakefinger ears. I happen to like it. Strange. But as I put it on it hypnotize me and I just sit there through the whole song listening to it.

You know LTEJ was released by Alternative Tentacles which reminds me to remind you about The Eat contest that’s going on. Loads of emails are coming in and so far I’ve picked one winner. Keep ’em coming.

I was knee deep in hardcore when I found a copy of “Let Them Eat Jellybeans” back in ’89 but even back then I dug “Corporate Food”. I had never heard anything like it, and I like it ever more all of these years later. The funniest part is at like the 1:55 mark when the frying noises kick in- hilarious! Pretty funny too that this song was on a Killed By Death (Volume 5)… “Snake Attack” does nothing for me though.

When my friend down the street first got into punk, he brought over Fresh Fruit, Group Sex and Jellybeans, and I taped some of it. “Corporate Food” was the only thing I taped off of side 2 of Jellybeans. I guess I counted wrong, because for years I thought it was by Half Japanese. God, it’s just as great as I remember it, too. Listening to it now, doesn’t that guitar solo sound like Paul Leary?

  6. JG says:

    Great stuff, really!

  7. pbr says:

glad someone still listens to this baby. fun making it. Like the harmonizer on the guitar solo?

gonna crank it off the master tape, and remaster it…still sounds intense today…

When my goat loses his billys, I play this and they all come back to him. Then the day’s not so baaaaaaaaaaaaaad.

  9. Charlie M says:

“The guitar solo brings Geza X ”

I may be wrong but I’m sure I read somewhere that it WAS Geza X playing guitar on this record????? I’m sure I read that…I’m sure…..

It is one of the best things on Jellybeans for sure though the Half Japanese track is a killer too

I think ‘Anonymous’ is Steve Fisk, who brought some significant weirdness to the SST label many years after this. Thanks for posting — an astounding 7″.

  11. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Yepp Paul it’s Steve Fisk. If you look carefully on the label scans you’ll see his name credited.

  13. Andrew says:

Great post! Thanks. I have a bunch of these 7s that I am selling on ebay at the moment, along with a copy of Let Them Eat jellybeans, which has info on Anonymous in its insert: members Steve Fisk, Jim Stonechipher, Paul Tilson. Recorded in Olympia, Washington

I’m blogging about Anonymous, going back as the early 80’s. If somebody knows the lyrics to “Corporate Food,” I’d appreciate it, and thanks!
