This is a re-post from April the 17th 2006. Added more scans, new rips and Goin’ Steady.

Time for some powerpop. A band I once again know nothing about. I heard it for the first time at www.lowdownkids.com and just became madly obssesed by tracking down a copy of this wonderful baby. (Obsolete information: Couldn’t find it on any comps but after a couple of months I found a copy and it turned down to be on white vinyl. Anyone seen another of these? I though only a black vinyl version existed.) Anyway I think Steve at Low Down Kids know more about the Producers. On many japanese collectors want list. And for a good reason.

  1. Thanks for this, never heard it before, must have missed it on LDK. There’s another 7″ I know of, “On The Shelf” / “Talking About My Baby” on Edge Records, same label who did Elton Motello’s “Pop Art” LP in the UK.

I should get myself one of these weblog things, they look fun.

The Producers “On The Shelf” single isn’t so hot, but their OTHER one, “Walk Right Back”, is pretty tippy-toppy. Not as good as “On The Beach” (which were all on white, I think). Hang on, your entry suggest that “Walk Right” is the title of the B-side… better not be or I feel kittens coming on.

Yargh, you are going to torture me by only putting up one side of this masterpiece?

could You help? in 1984 I heard in Australia / probably an aussie band?/ a punk track called ON THE BEACH, the refrain was also On the beach, I checked on internet bands that had such entitled track, but I havent found the proper one.
WHAT BAND COULD IT BE????! I know that many aussie bands might have sung about the beach, but try to help.

    thanks in regards

Pawel,I believe the track is Summertime(All Around The World)by Pam and the Passions, who were Pam Burridge,Aussie female surfer in the early eighties, backed by The Celebate Rifles.Released on HOT Records(HOT 716) in November 1984. The record seemed pretty rare at the time, but did get some airplay on alternative radio.Ive never seen a secondhand copy since the mid eighties.HOT have released some comps, you may find it there?

ps i have the 12″ record by PRODUCERS, it has both WALK RIGHT BACK and ON THE BEACH…They look like the DICKIES on the backcover. It’s pretty good I think. New wave power-poppy thing, quite snappy

Hey Ray, do you have the 12″ record by the Producers??? Hahaha….just kidding. I hate it when I post the same comment twice. As for this record…yuuuuuuuuucky!

  9. Jon B says:

Pawel — Another possibility is a 7″ by the band Fools Apart, titled… wait for it… “On the Beach”. It was released by Greasy Pop records in 1984.

Sorry that this response is two years late…

Perhaps it is “When I Go to the Beach” by the Slickee Boys?
