Here’s one of those great records that makes you shake your head and wonder if you just heard it or if it was a dream. Ronny is such an amazing song it’s almost unreal. Fast and driving drums, a great guitar riff and one of the weirdest synthesizers in the history of punk! The only downside is that it makes the b-side less interesting, even if it’s still a pretty catchy song as well.
The main guy behind the band, Ola Löhman, is now known as the guy who introduced ethic pension funds in Sweden and he’s a popular business lecturer. ABKK released another 7″ in 1982, but by then they were more of a dark wave band and not very interesting.

Wow! This is a fantastic record! The A side is incredible. Synths remind me of Wall of Voodoo…
Cheesy! Corny! Kitschig! Wonderful!!!

Yeah, this is truly a great record. So much better than that crappy Lögnhalsmottagningen EP!
doodling synthesizer is crazy
ABKK – Ronny/Morker 7″
Thanks Jerk Ass…I don’t think I would have figured that one out on my own.
@ Jay Thurston: guess Drunk and Armed was busy :)
Hahahahaha…
Oops…looks like Jerk Ass beat you to it, Drunk and Armed….hahahaha
When I heard this I cried, spewed green liquid, repeatedly bashed my head against a brick wall, and french kissed my cat, because it’s so good! – OK, that’s a lie – but it’s jolly good though.
Thanks Blenheim Shots for making me smile. Is there anything you like? Or was your childhood really that bad?
The most obscure 80’s bands I like that never made it onto CD are: THE STITCHED BACK FOOT AIRMAN, & THE NICE MEN. When I was a kid, some of the bands I listened to were more obscure then than they are now – like Wire & Crass. I went to school with the chick from Action Pact – this is my one and only claim to fame. From my childhood, I desperately want to hear SNOW by The Mekons again, The Cigarettes & Dead Man’s Shadow. The strangest thing I’ve got: a Uruguayan post-punk LP from 1985 Band: “Los Estomagos” (Translation: The Stomachs) Album: “Tango Que Me Hiciste Mal” (Translation: That Tango Fucked Me Up). Want me to email to you? It’s a bit Joybauhausdiviosioney, but it’s good. I’ve also got an EXCELLENT HC Brazilian comp from 1983 called SUB, BRILLIANT! however, I think this was CD’d in Brazil this century.
Hello.. I would like to get to know those bands more.. Can you please email me or tell me the song names??
Not even back in the days I would’ve called bands like Wire and Crass obscure but that’s just me. Mekons and The Cigarettes might be posted someday here. Dead Man’s Shadow will not make it. I used to have the SUB comp. but never liked it so I had to sell it. And as you say it has probably made it to CD.
“Not even back in the days I would’ve called bands like Wire and Crass obscure” – well they wern’t exactly like The Buzzcocks & Clash in my neighbourhood – although they should have been. I remember a Cigarettes track with a piano intro… I loved it. The SUB comp took me a long time to get used to – but it eventually grew on me. All a matter of taste I suppose. I am getting into the Australian band X from the late 70’s, (not the US X) (coz I live in Oz now). Although I recently picked up their second album, from 85, and it was nothing special – but ASPIRATIONS (79?) blows my mind. I think half of X had died by 85, (RIP) and unfortunately I think a lot of their original raw sound went to the grave with them. There’s a newish local band to me (Wollongong) called MUTTON (old school punk) who are really good – worth listening to if you ever stumble across them. They’ve 2 CD’s to date.
Anyway dude, thanks again for this site – solid gold!
I love your country, and I love what I’m hearing.
Fuck, I really like this.
where would i hear sweedish masterpieces were it not for you? i swear youre the sweedish mother teresa of posting bitchen records.
That synth sounds exactly like Boulder Dash for the Commodore 64! :D
ABKK stod tydligen för Aktiebolaget Konstruktivt Klotter. Inte lika ballt som Aktiebolaget Konkurs, men rätt OK ändå.
Another stellar disk, guys! I just posted a brief review of it over at my site, if you’re interested: http://www.sobriquetmagazine.com/music/2009/07/abkk-ronnymorker.html. Would you happen to have that second dark wave disk to which you refer in the entry above? I’d be curious to hear it.
Og tusen takk igjen for all deres arbeid!
Nice write up Sobriquet :)! I don’t have their second 7″ just this one but Martin might have it?
Thanks! I’ve discovered so much great stuff over here :)
Many thanks for this Martin…both tunes do the business in a marvellously unique and enjoyable way!
I had this on a ‘ny vÃ¥g’ tape but just a short clip so I never new the name of the band until many years later as I ran into it on a record show. I bought I hoping that Ronny was the same. I almost cried when I played. Btw – I cried hearing their second releasr but of other reasons,
i need this desperatly! honestly. best thing i heard in years!
Could use a copy if any are about? Thanks. could be reached at hotpantsmpls@gmail.com
Killer
Do you have any mp3s from the Sömnlös single, I’ve been looking for it for several years – but its impossible to find!
Does anyone have it and would like to send them to me?
