Breakouts – In Vagueness Deal/Millirems 7″

To companion Erichs post of the second Breakouts(which I used to have but didn´t and still don´t like) here´s their debut which is much better in my opinion. Sure the songs are still on the long side but for some reason they manage to keep it interesting all the way through. I would like to say that both tracks are killer punk rock the way they did it in the late 70´s in the States. I bet the Marlboro man was involved!

Well I´m pretty filled up with apple(nice computers) pie so I need to lay down. Pie pie!

Having never heard this one before, I would like to say thanks. On the other hand, I love their other record much better. Ha!

finally the BREAKOUTS here. this, their first 7″ is a bit rawer than their follow-up a year later (“Waiting for a change”) and what-a-great guitars… Hopefully someone will manage to do a legal re-issue of the BREAKOUTS stuff someday-they deserve it

  3. LHOOQtius says:

This is an excellent disc. Yeah, if someone did a legal re-issue of this, I’d buy it in a minute.

Hey, how’s it goin, I know I haven’t posted any comments in a while (er, or updated my blog either). I personally like all the Breakouts stuff, although this 1st 7″ is maybe the most charming because it’s so sloppy and has nice bad production. And such cool guitars, especially on “Vagueness”. I particularly like the garbled vocals and unique singing style- what the hell is he singing about?! The only lines I can make out are “I’d like to know, which way to go…” and “One thing, it leads to another…” The “No More” 12″EP from 1983 has some really great tracks on it (and a few medicore tracks too where they try to be too HC, but it WAS 1983 I guess). I also have a copy of an unreleased 1995 CD by the band (maybe they “reunited” when they started appearing on KBD-type bootlegs). I should post some stuff from that CD on my blog one of these days. It’s not on par with their best stuff but not bad for 1995.

@Tony: Your comments are always welcomed Tony! The No More 12″ is really great and needs to be posted one day though I think it´s still available at the defunct An American Punk in Suburbia. PLEASE post the 1995 CD would be fun to compare to their old stuff!!

  6. Martin says:

This band deserves to have their records reissued properly. This 7″ is so good.

I remember seeing the Breakouts open for Agent Orange & The Faction and being blown away. 1984ish.
    Thanks for posting.

Great post. The ‘No More’ 12 incher is one of my all time faves, but never lucky enough to nab this killer 7 inch. I think there is a recent official reissue of the No More EP, but not entirely sure it’s legit.

I hear elements of early GERMS in “In Vagueness Deal” essential listening!an instant classic!I really like that other song by these guys called “Trouble” on another 7’they put out.I can just really relate to the lyrics…”trouble here & there, trouble everywhere,it never ends..!””My life is trouble!” just like my life!

Yo ho! Excellent. Another lifetime indeed. Hey, I have a recording from one of our rehearsals at Hudson St. studios from the No More War era…one of my favorites when I dive into the audio scrap book. Do you think you have a copy of this? If not, do you want a copy? Reply to my email address. Alright. Very good.
