Here’s the second release from Bugs, and as you can hear they learned how to play by now. Unfortunately they still showed way too much of their roots as a punk band in the songs Doda doda and Religion, but just ignore those songs and enjoy the sweet acoustic song of praise to IBM and the homophobic love song Bogen (The queer) instead.
This record has one of the tastiest covers ever I guess, as a former owner apparently took a bite of it after spilling some coffee on it. Well oh well, at least the look of it made it a very cheap buy for me. And according to my dad it’s only collectors with their head stuck in their ass who cares about the condition of the cover anyway and who the hell wanna have their head up there? Not me for sure!
I think there are two members on this release that played on the first one as well, but it’s more or less a new band as the remaining members even choose to switch instruments on this release. And who did the two new guitarists insult? Neither names nor faces on the band photo!

I never understood why the punk scene was so homophobic in the 80s, and partly still is. What’s up with that? Fight for the rights of a few select minorities but against other, completely harmless ones. What did the gays ever do to upset the punks?
Are these the same Bugs that (from fading memory) put out some nasty revo-60s garage stomp 7″s in the late 80s?
Re:- homophobia. A tiny handful of bands had some suss in this department and dared to speak their minds – Clitboys “Gay’s OK”, MDC – …some song or other on the 1st LP, “Senseles Things – “Homophobic Asshole” …and I guess then the queercore bands. But actually “back in the day”? Only Tom Robinson was outspoken as I recall.
Nope Charlie M, these bugs are not the same as the late 80s Bugs. And about the homophobia issue, not sure, but in Bugs case it might have to do with the fact that they were really young and from a smaller town. Not an excuse thou. And I actually think the song is about a specific person, not gays in general but I’m not 100% sure.
2nd wave Punk and especially Hardcore were playgrounds for male chauvinism. Homophobia plays an important part in these processes. But when you look at “Hardcore” post-86, things have gotten totally out of control and ever since, “Hardcore” has become completely tasteless. That’s why I’m calling for the complete destruction of “Hardcore”.

I said it wasn’t the greatest record ever, but some “people” still wanted to hear it. At least I know what separates a good record from a bad now; a bad record get loads of cum…ents while no one gives a shit about the good ones. Who gives a shit about the punx anyway? They’re just trying to be provocative with their fuck authority and smash the system attitude when in reality they’re a bunch of mommy boys who worship the 2nd Bugs ep but can’t admit it because of their tough attitude.

You can say early L.A. punk from 77-79 was pretty much bi-sexual with Darby Crash from the Germs, Rick Wilder from the Mau Maus and many of the punks showed up at the Masque were bi-sexual and then it all changed in 1980 when the high school and college jocks became punks and started shit at the clubs because they thought the craziness with the punk scene meant beat people up
My dear old friends Bobo & RÃ¥kan from Valbo. We had a band shortly after this called “Stop” (shitty name, I know). We made a 2 song demo at the Hille/Mora Trask-studio which never saw an official release though.
This is nostalgia for me. Had a hard time with the song “Bögen” though, since a very close relative came out of the closet around 1981 ;-P and I didn´t have a problem with the gay-people before that either. It was nothing “strange” with being officially anti-gay in Valbo, Sweden at that time though. “Everybody” were. It´s a really small “red-neck” village and everybody were finding gayness an abomination there back then. Even the otherwise “openminded” punks. Like the rastafaris in Jamaica still today or something.
Would love to see the BUGS-demo posted here as well Btw ;-D
It is actually better than this EP. But I still wanna say that songs like “Religion” and “Döda döda” DID sound much better and more raw in the BUGS live-set. It´s a really wimpy production on this EP! I mean – where are the raw chainsaw-guitars from the Bloody Mess EP?! I´ve witnessed some great BUGS-concerts in my time ;-)
