This record has the oh-so-classic story behind it that we all know so well, but I’ll tell it anyway. In 1977 a popular Swedish musician goes to London and sees the Sex Pistols perform which makes him wanna play punk. He writes a few songs in that direction on his own, but don’t record anything. Later the same year he goes to Iceland on vacation, but instead of traveling around on the island he gets an offer to go into a studio and record a few tunes. He accepts the offer and records the song Ode to Johnny Rotten, and at the same time he changes his moniker from Harpo to Zeppo.
When he gets back to Sweden he spends hours and hours on writing the lyrics to I’m so bored, and when he’s finally done he records that song as well. He starts his own label and in January 1978 he releases his only record as Zeppo & the Zepp-Zepps. Probably without too much trouble the record gets distributed by EMI and therefore sells quite well. Many years later it turns out that the record was the second punk record ever released in Sweden, but by then Harpo/ Zeppo has given up on music and is breeding horses, who occasionally kicks him in the head, instead.
If you’re like us here at kbdrecords, just press stop after 2 minutes and you won’t have to hear the chorus until your ears fall off.

Jo fan nu är knäppet tillbaka med råge goa lilla göbbe. Låter som att det skulle vara problem med statisk elektrecitet. Lyssnat både hemma och på jobbet.
Ode to Johnny Rotten is great! I´m So Bored. Me too.
The A side is a classic!!! The B side makes me bored…
Ett ord till Johnny Rotten is a classic. I like that they let the clic-track go on through the whole song. Quite sparkling..! I also heard that Harpo got his kicks from Horse back in the good ol’ daze. The b-side leaves me bored stiff. Maybe he should have done a cover of “Gamle Svarten” instead. Eeee-hah-hah.
Arne Hegefors Jr sa att han var aktuell som “Munnen som kunde tala med hästar”…. men fick sparken.
I just had the opportunity to listen to the last Hives record. How fucking horrible! What happened to them?? I used to like their earlier material a lot, now they are fucking awful. There is no reason for me to go to Sweden any more. : (
was IGLOO Records not belonging to the ABBA guys/gals ?
Ja, det var värst vad knäppt det lÃ¥ter. I think I’ll have to rip it up and start over again.
jay, to answer your question about the hives, i think harmony korine said it best . . .
“When I studied these film-makers, I’d see where their power came from, and where it dissipated. So I’d look at Scorsese and say, ‘OK, here’s this incredible 10-year stretch and oh, he was on cocaine the entire time, and then he comes off cocaine and makes The Color of Money.’ And you learn that, at best, great artists have 10 years.”
R.I.P. Hives.
Ode makes me want to d/l audacity while Bored is a delight because of the drums.
