Discovered that this been in the posting queue since January 2008! Time to post it. This one spells  C-L-A-S-S-I-C! So crude so rude so goodamn evil. The production and mixing goes so well with Bobbys evil sneering voice. Everything is up front. So close to the speakers it jumps at you. Ladies and gentlemen THIS is how a snare drum shall sound, like you’ve put greaseproof paper on it. Killer! For some reasons Scavenger of Death hasn’t got as much attention as the title track but to me it’s just as great. Monotonous and hypnotizing.

“Everyone’s learning to hate in the 80’s. Children and men, even the ladies.” Yes we can! But in the 21th century.

This is the type of monotony that makes one want to punch someone in the face. Thanks

  2. The Flakes // Drummer says:

You’re welcome Jay! One of the most dedicated commentators. You just don’t have to say more then this. A thank you is enough :).

  3. Jay Thurston says:

I am trying hard not to say to much…it is difficult.:)

  4. Say more. And say, that I’ve had this posted years ago :-)

  5. The Flakes // Drummer says:

You posted this years ago :).

  6. Monger says:

Probably one of the best records of the 79-80 season! if not the best.I miss Bobby calling me up loaded and screaming “dirty deeds done dirt cheap” half out of his mind on natural light or harmony hill…great guy, great record!

  7. Chuck Foster says:

Definitely two of my favorite tracks from the Bloodstains Across Texas comp., although, Peter, your rips sound a lot better than mine. Of course, you have the original and I was burning from bootleg records. And I could never get that speed adjuster right…

  8. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Glad you enjoy the rips Chuck :).

  9. Martin says:

    Punk…the real deal!

  10. phlegm says:

i see you got this from vvv, which was a record store (before my time) run by ncm’s neal caldwell.

  11. behjan says:

Mr.Robert Soxx singing-style on Side A is ab bit much even to my wide taste and annoys there that he manages to ANNOY (me) B-side alot, while he calmed down a bit and that´s cool flip!!!
    PS:
Wasn´t the SNUCKY TATE 1st 7″ep posted here awhile back ? And the Canadian´s THE FITS “Bored of Education” 7″ep-if not, please do it!

  12. En seriös date med Bobby Soxx i Stockholm? Coolt…

  13. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Yeah I flew over to Texas in 1981 upon it’s release. In hindsight it was worth it.

Behjan, neither Snuky or Fits has been posted. And they won’t be posted either. At least not here. I used to have Bored of Education but never got into it so I traded it away. I have the reissue of Snuky but it’s not that good I think.

  14. taqn86 says:

thanks for the scans, I’ve always wanted the lyrics for scavenger of death

  15. behjan says:

wow,FLAKES (I have to notify your real name -kinda confusing!): so songs such as the Canadian´s “Bored Of Education” and San Francisco´s “Stege Speech” you
don´t like or even dislike …

  16. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Yepp that’s right Behjan :). Taste differs you know.

  17. Jay Thurston says:

To like or not to like, that is the question!

  18. Tony says:

For me this record is a revelation and I don’t think any other punk record sounds quite like it, amazing stuff. “Scavenger of Death” is just so evil sounding. I’ve found that you can really make people feel uncomfortable playing that tune for them. The backing band was the Dirxx brothers who played wimpy shit in the Telefones when not with Mr. Soxx. The Bobby Soxx/Teenage Queers live LP that came out on BTX in ’98 was OK but nothing like this.

  19. Yawn says:

Don’t forget that Bobby Beeman produced this single and then he became the bass player in Bobby Soxx’s next band Stickmen with Rayguns. Check them out here
http://www.stickmenwithrayguns.com/ They were bigger loader and meaner than this single. This single was just the beginning. Their album “Some People Deserve to Suffer” is to me, the most important puck document ever. That is not an empty statement. Check it out for yourself and let me know what you think?

    • Steve Dirkx says:

Bobby B. did pay for the pressing, it probably never would have happened otherwise, but nobody ‘produced’ it, in the studio sense. It was recorded/mixed on a TEAC 4 track Reel-Reel by Randy Caldwell (NCM drummer) in his house. I have a photo of Randy’s studio set up, but I can’t attach a photo here.

  21. Renik says:

Truly one of the most divine 7 inches ever made.

  22. Steve D. says:

I own the copyrights to those two songs, and am putting a high quality download for sale on amazon.com. I’d appreciate if you would stop giving it away for free. I’d like to make some small change off the songs I co-wrote and preserved for 29 years. Steve D., Dallas

    • Ian says:

Why don’t you press some high quality records while you’re at it, bootlegs of this are all over the place.

      • ? says:

Many people, like myself, discovered those songs from the Bloodstains Across Texas album. If it wasn’t for that album, alot of other people wouldn’t have discovered those songs either. The other option to hear these songs that many people go for is getting one of the bootlegs that Ian is talking about. If there was some represses in existence, there would be people buying them, but since there’s not, I’ll continue listening to my Bloodstains Across Texas album while other people will continue to buy bootlegs of this 7 inch.

        • Ian says:

Well, I was actually including Bloodstains, since that is a bootleg.
I’m all for who ever wrote the songs getting paid, I’d just like to see a legit version of the record available (for under $400), and not just some mp3’s.

          • ? says:

I was referring to the bootleg copies of the 7 inch that are out there. Perhaps I should have worded my reply a bit differently.

  23. Ian says:

Du borde ha formulerat det i svenska för skannern
goons att köra den här grejen att förstå. Det är sannolikt
varför Bobby Soxx låtar fortfarande upp, Steve D. bett i
    fel språk!

  24. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Hi Steve! Thanks for stopping buy and also thanks for such a great record. The files will be removed but please give me a link to the files you’re posting so I can put the link here for people to buy and download.

  25. John says:

100% punker than a barrel of Maximum Rock’N’Roll shitworkers!

  26. Farmer Ted says:

Thanks for posting this record, which brings back lots of great memories of being a punk kid in Dallas in the early 80’s.

  27. Chano says:

The ultimate version of “S.O.D.”: http://youtu.be/wDTaZCe-oJw much better than the 7″ version, in my humble opinion.

  28. Steve Dirkx says:

Some years after this tread was started… The best available quality for the original Soxx recordings, live or otherwise, reside at:

    Thanks
    Steve D
