For some time it was maybe way too much powerpop and now it’s just too much punk/hc junk posted. I’m glad I found Canada’s Pink Steel to even it up.

Just as with Japan I wish I knew a little more about the early 70’s Canadian punk/wave scene. Considering I sometimes want to see myself as half Canadian. My father flow over to Vancouver in 1970/71 to find a job and make the family emigrate. He really wanted to make it to the USA(The love of America runs in the family.) but thought it would be easier to make it to Canada first. A big strike broke out in Vancouver and all the money my mom sent had been spent and he had to return back to good ‘ol Sweden again. Bummer. A year later or so they got divorced. And a fucked up kid had to go through life trying to get attention from his father through different means like stealing, being a punk and don’t give a fuck about school. Didn’t work ha ha.

Ok, Pink Steels second 7″ here. Both tracks really rocks my cotton pants off. Super catchy. “Won’t come in your hand” might attract the powerpop crowd a little bit more while “Some of the things that you do” got more filth in it. Quality wise this is just as great as another powerpop/punk band from Canada: Pointed Sticks. Really!

I dunno, I found “Want Cum in your hand?” quite awkward… and scary. But the b-side was a killer.

  2. Horrible, but thanks for sharing.

It sounds to me like Joey Shithead trying to sing “punk” in a New Wave band. The B side sounds pretty good. I wouldn’t want it in my collection though. I would probably give it to Erich for Christmas.

Always confused by these and their countrymen PLATINUM BLONDE (their first 7″ of 1979 “No Regrets” is nice!). Here, PI.ST. “Some Of The Things That You Do” is quite okay, the B-side (after one listening) is disposable.
(PI.ST. on same label as NEOS and INFAMOUS SCIENTISTS-anyone aware of any other band on that ALANANDHISCAR label ?)

BTW Peter, any plans to post the dutch MONROE here ,with their 7″ “Polio For The People” (1978) someday soon ,in case you have it ?
If you have that 7″,please consider an inclusion here (its p/s is so tasty…)

Don’t get me wrong- I’m a Peterpop convert but I may have to think about this one. However, I do have a soft spot for any band that thanks their pets on their insert. Why the hell are seven people listed as members?? Look at the back cover- there’s so many of them- they look like a heshen version of the Commodores. Triumph (also Canadian) have already proven (probably confirmed by KBD labs) that the power trio is the ideal band arrangement. Four at the most.

I wish Peter would get sick again. Last week we were treated to some wonderful records, everyday. Now look. Now, we have to wait for a new one. Please, Peter, get sick soon. Hahahaha

    little gizmos-esque
    i dig it
    specially the b-side

speaking of the gizmos, isn’t it high time you made some sort of HUGE GIZMOS POST

    • Dirk says:

I agree, put the entire Gizmo catalog on here! And add the Panics too!!That’ll fuck Eddie Flowers up. Thanks for not sending me my order last summer, Eddie at Slippy Town!

Hey, as someone who grew up in BC I love all your Vancouver 7″s… I haven’t heard them in years. I’m pretty sure some Pink Steel members went on to form a more well known band that’s escaping me now, so I guess they weren’t successful… but please keep the Cancon coming!

After Pink Steel’s demise, Pete and John formed The Wardells. They released an album with Zulu Records. The Wardells broke up early in 1990 and Pete went on to form The Sweaters, who released three CDs through the 90s.

I didn’t care too much for the tunes, and your little bit of revealed life story made me just a little sad.

  10. Martin says:

I’ve been listening to this one quite a few times now and it’s really a true killer. Din’t care too much for it the first times I listened to it, but it really grows more and more. One of the best posts since Pictures.
