New Models – S/T 7″

Repost from 18th of May 2006. Added more scans and Shattered Windows which ain’t that bad just a bit too long. Enjoy Tony ;).

Produced by Ric Ocasek from The Cars. And according to a post here:”Casey from New Models played guitar in Slapshot for a brief time.” From Boston. “The New Models caught their first big break when they attracted the attention of the Cars’ David Robinson, who asked them to open for the Cars at their 1980 Boston Garden concert. A series of favorable reviews was followed by circulation of a tape produced by Ric Ocasek at his newly opened Synchro Sound Studio. The tape, consisting of the tunes “Permanent Vacation” and -“Shattered Windows,” became a local hit, but, in absence of any vinyl product, interest in the band soon died out.”

A fantastic track — it makes me proud to be a Bostonian.

    Thanks for sharing!

Sister of Casey here and yes, he did a few Slappy shows. There was another piece of vinyl, a 12″ w/ 5 songs. They came close to getting signed and were huge for a while, last show at the Channel in 1985. Curtis from Taang just picked that track to play while on my show yesterday.

  3. Why is the B-side “Shattered Windows” not included? Is it a total piece of shit that I should not ever worry about ever hearing? Will my life still be complete without it? If it’s not too crummy of a song, would you consider my request to post it as well? I absolutely love “Permanent Vacation” and have been digging it since you posted it 3 years ago (damn, time flies! I can’t believe your blog has been around over 3 years now). Cheers.

Can’t remember how the b-side sounds Tony. Another one to add to the repost queue.

And for you I will do anything as you know :).

  4. Aw, shucks! Thanks! I know I have not posted any comments lately but work has taken away too much from my time for blog visiting and posting, and I am upset about this!

  5. I fucking love you! Thanks for posting the B-side, you just saved me having to continue searching eBay auctions for a copy. Last Fall, one copy on eBay sold for like $3 (I fell asleep before the auction ended, doh!) while some other seller was charging a “Buy It Now” price of $25- LOL!

  7. I have been looking for “Permanent Vacation” for 25 years… I love this song. I used to see them live every time they came to Salem or Beverly MA… They were one of the best live performances that I have ever seen.

I remember seeing them play with the Stompers and a bunch of other local acts up in NH… Just awesome.

Those were the days…. thanks to Ric Ocasic for making this tape…

I think I was at that Cars show at the Garden as well…. The new Models moved all around and then the Cars came out and just stood still…hahaa
