Is it better to post a record with no text about it at all when all you really have to say is AWESOME? In the beginning it was all about Taking The City By Storm. And it is THE song on here. It´s flawless from start to finish. The rest of the songs feels kind of bleak in comparison at first. But please let them spin a couple of times and you´ll find that they´re great too but not on the same level. Especially the choruses are strong. Haskels later became Dominoes who according to collectorscum.com released a 7″ with one good song on it. If anyone has it I want to hear it. Baby let´s download!

  3. Jay Thurston says:

It’s a shame I never bought this…it is fantastic. Zero Boys are better, but…(to rip off Ian)

  4. Collin says:

That Dominoes sucks. Don’t waste your time. DON’T BELIEVE THE LIES!

  5. Patrick Marley says:

Wow, this dovetails nicely with the Zero Boys debate. A couple of years ago I saw a reenactment of the Haskels opening for the Lubricants, the infamous Starship show circa ’81. There were a series of reenactments at the University of Madison inspired by an old mock article in Motorbooty. I almost didn’t get in the door because my Rot Shit badge on my leather jacket wasn’t period correct, but in the end the door guy was cool and let me in anyhow. Although none of the members were original, the “Haskels” tore through their songs with such ferocity and precision that they seemed almost as authentic as the real Haskels! The only thing that sort of blew it for me was that I saw a few kids retrieving new school skateboards from the coat check. At any rate this single is killer, but it’s nothing like seeing them live.

  6. Ian says:

Erich put it best, YES!!!! I had never heard the “other” songs before. You are right, they are cool songs on their own, but can’t keep up with Taking the City.

  7. sir hake says:

  8. Laura says:

  9. justin says:

This is more my speed, Peter.

  10. Martin says:

Killer EP! I’ve heard “Taking the city by storm” too many times, so for me the rest of the EP totally rips.
    Very cute boys as well.

  11. Mathieu says:

Ahhh, finally ! I’ve received a cdr some years ago with no band’s name and never knew wich band it was. Trust me it was really frustrating with a band that good ! I think that, beside “taking the city by storm”, the song “body langage” is absolutely great. You make my day KBDR.Peace.

PS: one band on this cdr remain unknow to me, so keep doing the good work.

  12. b e h j a n says:

too bad the singer (real name Jerome Brisch) was stabbed to death while he wanted back his jacket that was stolen by some morons (happened in the early 1990´s -RIP! )
    Wisconsin 1979-1982 :
catchiest: TAKING THE CITY BY STORM by HASKELS
LET´s GO TO GUYANA by (AMERICAN) BOMBS
coolest: TIGHT ROPE by THE ONES
greatest FAST-PUNK: the “COWS AND BEER” one, natch

    ps:
SIR HAKE,by now we all already know “your English is bad”, as you mention it in every comment you put here…

    • Shelly says:

He was not stabbed to death for a jacket. And it was not deliberate attempt. This person has tortured himself since 1991. FYI- The leather jacket was not even found. And he is not a moron.

      • chris boulet says:

this person?…Who is this person…I remember what happened….and there was definetly a leather jacket involved…are you the kid who went to re.hab?…were you involved….are you the murderer?

    • chris boulet says:

I was a friend of Jerome,.he worked on my guitar the week before he was killed….and the story is slightly different from what is written above.. the part about the jacket is right…but he wasn’t stabbed..his head was beaten on the cement and he died from cranium trauma…I went to his euligy…spoke at his wake and attended his funeral…the man who killed him convinced the 16 year old son of his girlfriend to confess to the crime…the kid went to rehab…and the murderer got away…..that’s what happened…..ugly and tragic.. stupid and senseless…rip Jerome

  13. Cracked Actor says:

  14. Caio says:

  15. Jackson MacDonald says:

  16. FuseRed says:

city by storm is one of the best punk songs i’ve heard so cant wait to hear the rest of the ep – drummer was in the violent femmes later on wasnt he?

    • The Flakes // Drummer says:

That lead me to some googling and you’re right Guy Hoffman/Vodie Haskel did the drums in Violent Femmes :). Thanks!

      • Stig Dangerman says:

Even though the singer’s last name was Guano, that the Violent Femmes had a black member must be shocking to white American students who thought they were singing along to the songs of German cheese-eaters and (Fudge)Packers fans (i.e., the early immigrants of Wisconsin).

  17. chris_c says:

    thanks, can’t wait!
