I would´ve hated Going through… in my younger years and any other day. Today I find myself captivated by the monotone kind of boring song. Guess I´m just in the right mood for it. Accompanies life pretty well: up, work, home, bed. Repeat. But ok what REALLY makes this record stands out is the ASTONISHING Things in general. Would easily fitted quiet well into the Raw catalog. Proto hardcore with assorted sloppiness, a guitar sound to die for and an amazing singer.

Seriously, I don’t know why this doesn’t get more attention. There’s a few songs even shorter and faster than Things in General, and a few even longer and more artier than Going Through the Motions.
Download “Faults” at that above link for starters.
Listening to the previews in iTunes right now. Holy shit. Yeah WHY didn´t it get more attention? Need it.
One theory…Pitchfork didn’t review it, for what it’s worth.
And maybe we didn’t market it great. I thought it would appeal to both “class of 77” punks and art-rocking post-punks. Maybe each group thought it was just about the other. Maybe they just didn’t see it. I swear that it’s just about as good a representation of the growth of a band from primal early UK punk to post-punk artiness as comps like Joy Division’s Substance or Wire’s On Returning.
It’s a great comp. Well worth getting hold of.
Two words: C. D.
Heard of but never heard it before. Love it. Reminds me of borderline rock punk going post like Swell Maps, Subway Sect, non-pop Soft Boys, etc. Thanks.
is a funtastic record, cheap punk original no commercial great lovly wonderfull real amazing 70s punk monster no future in 2010,this is real.sir hake
Love the Bassline
Glad to see this fantastic 45 getting some attention. As well as the fantastic comp that Dan talks about, “Amateur Wankers”, Caroline True released a ltd ed cd, 500 copies, of the Prefects live at the Festival Suite, Birmingham in 1978. They are the great lost UK punk band.
Thank you! This rules!!
