Black Flag – Nervous Breakdown E.P. 7″

Black Flag have finally reformed and released an AWESOME come back album. The art work for the sleeve puts Raymond Pettiboon to shame. The title is aptly named “What the…” that’s exactly what I thought when spinning it for the first time. A masterpiece.

To celebrate I give you the first press of Nervous Breakdown to chew on. Not as great as the new album, I know, but still worth a spin.

I haven’t yet had an opportunity to hear the new album, Pete (and I don’t think I will because I don’t know if I could endure such great magnificence!!) but I am absolutely sure that “Nervous Breakdown” is not up to the historical significance and magnitude of “What The ….”. All hail the new Black Flag!!! :D

I see what you did there…

  3. Martin says:

Black Flag is among the greatest loves of my life and I’m so happy to see them back together again, it’s not unpleasant in any way, and I doubt Greg will sue you for posting this one. This is one of the best and most important bands and releases in the history of punkrock if you ask me.

  4. ian says:

no need to comment on the songs of course, but have always liked the original artwork of this – esp. the weird dorky font used for the band name before it got the ‘toughened up’ treatment & was forever linked w the bars…btw can any-one shed any light on whether flag used to cover a Saints song (forget which one – maybe demolition girl) in their early years? Recall reading this somewhere…

White Flag used to cover “Demolition Girl”

  6. Complaint Department says:

Wow. I can’t tell if you guys are kidding about the cool album cover for the new record??? Saw “Flag” in Redondo earlier this year and “Black Flag” in Santa Ana not long after. At both gigs, everyone looked at each other and went “What the…”

  7. MAFFISH says:

My expectations are low for the new release. If it has the Black Flag intensity, fine. But if it sounds nothing like Black Flag, then why didn’t Greg just call the band something else and use the selling point of “Ex-Black Flag” to generate his sales?

  8. Stig Dangerman says:

I am still waiting to hear the Greg Ginn Band’s “Ginnspiracy” LP, which consists of instrumentals of Greg Kihn songs. My expectations are high for this piece of conceptual genius!

  9. RIKSLARM says:

Punks are the old farts of today…

This ep I’ve always felt is the American Spiral Scratch.
