Divorce…I’m out of words. It’s up there with the best songs of Modernettes or Pointed Sticks. No wonder you find Mary Jo(named Pebbles here) here before she joined the Modernettes. Andy, drums, and Colin, guitar, later joined UJ3RK5 that released a 12″ EP on Quintessence that is so so if I remember it correctly. Both bands share the same singer. On Big Black Puppets False Hopes there’s Bill from Pointed Sticks on guitar and Dimwit on drums. That should make great ingredients for a great song but sadly if falls flat to the ground. But this records a-side totally makes up for it. Download and get yourself a divorce this Christmas.

Big Black Puppets was a one-time studio project formed only to record the B-side of that single. I have the Phil Smith album on my blog which has a few more Wasted Lives songs and the rest of the bands he was in. http://melonvillehc.blogspot.ca/2013/04/va-phil-smith-album-lp-1983.html
Thanks a lot Jimmy!
Thanks! Of the two Wasted Lives songs on the comp, Wirehead is just as good as Divorce.
Holy shyte!! I can’t stop listening to “Divorce”, such a killer song it is!! Complex, tight powerful and catchy in the right combination. Too bad “False Hopes” is so weak, it’s like day and night when compared to “Divorce”. It clearly shows how pointless can be the concept of “studio projects” or “super groups”…. Thanks for sharing (well, the A-side, at least ;) ).
Can’t stop listening to Divorce either. It’s a drug.
Not even a sleeve with a picture of Walter Benjamin and overwrought lyrics (“Stumbling in the rundown corridors of chosen words”?!) can detract from the greatness of Divorce. It’s a true classic, albeit by high-minded art boys! Thanks.
High-minded art indeed dear Stig :).
The single’s B-side was actually an ad-hoc combo consisting of Phil and Mary with Bill Napier-Hemy on guitar and Dimwit (credited as Ed Norton) on drums.
