Public Image Limited – Public Image 7″

So no obscure records left ha? Don’t you worry. There’s plenty. But I’m in the mood for some classics. P.I.L.’s brilliant first 7inch is a must. Johnny just spat it out right in the punk rockers faces. Did they get it? Of course not. The lyrics are one of my favorites cause it rings so true no matter what decade.

(Hello, hello)
Ha ha ha ha

You never listened to a word that I said
You only seen me from the clothes that I wear
Or did the interest go so much deeper?
It must have been to the color of my hair

The public image

What you wanted was never made clear
Behind the image was ignorance and fear
You hide behind his public machine
You still follow same old scheme

Public image

Two sides to every story
Somebody had to stop me
I’m not the same as when I began
I will not be treated as property

Public image

Two sides to every story
Somebody had to stop me
I’m not the same as when I began
It’s not a game of monopoly

Public image

Public image, you got what you wanted
The public image belongs to me
It’s my entrance my own creation
My grand finale, my goodbye

Is this the rare Egyptian sleeve version?

  1. Johnny Balbao says:

I’m very selective when it comes to P.I.L. but this single is pretty as is the first long player! Always loved Johnny’s snotty attitude! All this is way more interesting than most homogenised and predictable hardcore bands that later followed (e.g. Wretched (Italy), M.D.C. and let’s say all the finnish hardcore bands like Riistetyt). Great post!

  2. Dewey Decimal says:

Ooh, rare Italian sleeve! Great record.

  3. Martin says:

Great, I just have the greek & the Japanese sleeves for this one.

  4. Chano says:

Man, “Public Image” is such a great charming song. I never get tired of it. I don’t care much about the flip, though… Thanks!
