Chuzpe – (They Can’t Beat) The Beat / I Loved The Sixties 7″

As this went for some insane money recently on eBay I thought it appropriate to make the mp3s available for the public. The Charlie Chan 7″ from 1981 where posted many years ago and show a more new wavish side of ’em. The debut here capture their punkier past though their stuff from 1978 is much rawer. The Beat makes me think of Roxy Music mixed with punk in The Beat. I Loved the Sixties still have some Roxy vibe or mainly Bryan Ferry as heard in the vocals and a hooky chorus. And the sleeve!! THE SLEEVE! A perfect example of great looking punk sleeves that breaks all the rules by marrying the swastika with the star of David. Je Suis Chuzpe.

    Er ……….Wrong label Scans!!

  2. Amazing production on this one, and the singers accent kicks ass. I do prefer the b-side, and I’m a bit disapointed that you posted this with the regular sleeve version instead of the hand colored one.
These guys went through so many phases, the stuff previous to this is so good and raw, and the later is great as well even if it doesn’t even sound like the same band when they went into their darker phase with more Joy Division influences.
Too bad their first recordings (that appeared on the Weiner Blutrausch comp LP & the Panze-Platte comp) never made it to a 7″.

Austria didn’t have much good punk bands but the best to me will always be the Dirt Shit and Pobel. This Chuzpe record is just average to my hear. The vocals don’t do it for me. But this don’t mean that i’m not grateful you posted it! You blog is the very best!

The singer sounds a bit like Cameron from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

Not really my cup of tea, but thanks for sharing anyway. This is totally new to me. B side is a little better, IMO.

Seriously, this is a massive record! How do you store IT Peter? And is this the only record ever made in the 1979″ format?
